  14. Judah • Jeroboam has led ten tribes away • Rehoboam is ready to do battle • Army of 180,000 men • To re-unite the kingdom

  15. Judah • God sent Shemaiah • Do not go to battle; go home • This is MY doing • Rehoboam obeyed

  16. Israel • God promised Jeroboam the kingdom as long as he remained faithful • A reigning dynasty like David’s • Jeroboam was fearful • Afraid people would defect when going to Jerusalem to the temple to worship

  17. Israel • He set up golden calves at Dan and Bethel • These are your gods, that brought you out of Egypt remember—idol worship is nothing new…

  18. Israel • A different worship required more changes • Priest not from Levi • Changed date of annual atonement • Offered sacrifices to the calves • But, we are still serving Jehovah REALLY???

  19. Judah • Rehoboam feels secure • He abandons Jehovah • They would still go to the temple, but idolatry was everywhere • God delivers them to Egypt • Shishak invaded in fifth year • Captured the fortified cities • Came up to Jerusalem

  21. Jeroboam’s Son1 Kings 14:1-18 Prophecy • 14 "Moreover the LORD will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam; this is the day. What? Even now! "For the LORD will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their wooden images, provoking the LORD to anger. "And He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who sinned and who made Israel sin." God promised Jeroboam the kingdom as long as he remained faithful Leadership Responsibilities

Let all the other people go, every man to his place." 1 Samuel 14:6 Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, "Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us. For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few." Judah • Asa prayed to Jehovah • 2 Chronicles 14:11 And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, "LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!"

  31. Judah • God gave Asa and the army of Judah a great victory • They pursued the Cushites and took great bounty • They also destroyed Philistine villages and took bounty from them • Sheep, goats, and camels

  32. Judah • God sent Azariah the prophet to see Asa • His message was of the need to serve Jehovah • Blessing would continue Obedience brings blessings

  33. Judah • 2 Chronicles 15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. 1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us. Joshua 24:15 …choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… God will NEVER, never FORCE me to obey Him Choice?

  34. Judah • Asa continued to serve Jehovah • He removed more idols from Judah • He repaired the bronze altar at the temple • He removed his grandmother from her position because she worshipped Asherah (female counterpart of Baal) • Asa killed the ones who did not serve Jehovah

  35. Asa’s failure • Baasha set siege against Ramah • Asa sought help from Ben-Hadad • Hanani the prophet comes to see Asa • Why did you rely on Ben-Hadad? • Did the Lord not deliver you from Ethiopians? • Asa angry with prophet

  36. Lesson seek Him, He will be found by you • 2 Chronicles 15:2 …If you seek Him, He will be found by you • …and sought Him with all their soul; and He was found by them

  37. Lesson seek Him, He will be found by you • Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

"The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Baasha and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the fields."

  44. Reign of Zimri • 1 Kings 16:13 for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, by which they had sinned and by which they had made Israel sin, in provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their idols. • 27th year of Asa king of Judah • Zimri reigned seven days

  45. Reign of Zimri • 1 Kings 16:19 because of the sins which he had committed in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he had committed to make Israel sin. • People of Israel made Omri king over Israel • Was commander of the army

  46. Reign of Omri • 31st year of Asa king of Judah • Omri reigned 12 years • Build the city of Samaria • 1 Kings 16:25 Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all who were before him.
