IB Program Overview 2018 • The IB Diploma Program is composed of 6 subject areas (Language A, Language B, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, The Arts) • Subject Score Range: 1-7 (4 is a qualifying score) • Up to 3 bonus points for Extended Essay/Theory of Knowledge course performance • Learner must earn 24 points and avoid any failing conditions to earn the IB Diploma (Average of 4) • Learners complete assessments for 3 (or 4) subjects at higher level (HL) and the remainder standard level (SL) • All HL and most SL subjects are taught over 2 years

  12. 2018 AP Highlights - CHS • 9 Exams had 90-100% of Learners Score a 3+ • Art History (17 learners tested) • European History (2 learners tested) • Biology (111 learners tested) • Microeconomics (33 learners tested) • Studio Art 3-D Design (4 learners tested) • Studio Art 2-D Design (14 learners tested) • Studio Art Drawing (11 learners tested) • Chinese (6 learners tested) • Japanese (1 learner tested)

  13. 2018 AP Highlights - NTH@C • Highest number of learners ever to score 3+ • Computer Science A - 100% of learners scored 3+ (3 learners tested) • English Literature and Composition - 100% of learners scored 3+ (6 learners tested) • Spanish Language and Culture - 100% of learners scored 3+ (4 learners tested) • Statistics - 100% of learners scored a 3+ (3 learners tested) • NTH@C has been approved to offer the AP Capstone Course in 2019-2020

AP Course Revisions and Next Steps • Beginning in 2019-2020, AP Studio Art 2D Design, AP Studio Art 3D Design, and AP Studio Art: Drawing will become AP 2D Art and Design, AP 3D Art and Design, and AP Drawing • The portfolios submitted as part of those courses will now have 2 portions: sustained investigation and selected works • Fewer required works will be submitted

AP Course Revisions and Next Steps • Beginning in 2019-2020, AP World History will cover information beginning in 1200 CE and the title of the course will be changed to AP World History: Modern. • The College Board is looking to create a new course, AP World History: Ancient, pending feedback from universities that they will award credit for such a course.

  18. CISD AP Celebrations As you know, we have been notified by the College Board that for the fourth year in a row we are an AP Honor District! This honor is bestowed on districts who have increasing AP course enrollment/exam participation and increasing AP scores on those exams.

Questions for Consideration • What impact will offering only AP Human Geography at CHS9 have on preparation of our AP learners? • How can we balanced increasing AP enrollment with student choice and our desire for learners to explore their passions? • Why do some learners enrolled in AP courses decline the opportunity to take the AP exam? • How can we continue to support our AP educators as their learner enrollment increases?
