What you should be aware of • You should set up a ‘Fan Page,’ not a ‘profile’. • A personal Facebook account (profile) is required to set up a Facebook Fan Page. • The page is publicly viewable to anyone on the internet, with or without a Facebook account. • Any Facebook user can choose to ‘Like’ your page and follow/interact with it. • People can ‘see’ other page users if those users interact with the page. • You cannot disable comments on a Fan Page. • You can have several page administrators. • You can easily delete a page if needed. • Children under 13 should not be using Facebook.

What you should be aware of • Tweets allow you 140 characters only. • Unless you set your tweets to private, they can be seen by anyone on the internet. • You should create an impersonal, official account name. • It is best not follow any known individuals. • Other Twitter users can send @ tweets directed at your account. They cannot send you private messages unless you ‘follow’ them. • Other Twitter users can retweet what you post if your tweets are public. • Children under 13 should not be using Twitter.

  9. Post things that people want to see! • Link from your website. • Embed in your website (* Cookies!) • Newsletters. • School/Home email / SMS. • Cards in reception. • Posters in reception. • QR codes.

  12. They will be using social media in their lives.There are right ways and wrong ways of using it.Used appropriately, it can help engage children in their learning.There are tools available aimed at schools and children.

  13. What can it do? Post and return homework / classwork Post messages to the class or individual pupils Pupils can post messages to the class or teacher (but not to each other.) Create quizzes and polls Upload resources into an online library Class calendar Parent accounts Access from any online computer or most mobile devices Parent / Carer permission required for under 13s

Teacher can easily create a ‘class’ with individual pupil blogs Blog content is kept in ‘walled garden’ and private - only the class can see them Plenty of control options for teachers Teachers can create passworded parent accounts No personal infoorpupil email addresses needed Parent / Carer permission required for under 13s
