  4. air express industry in perspective • The express industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the global economy • It now employs around 1.25 million people directly – larger than the petroleum refinery industry – and supports over 2.65 million jobs in total • A broad range of industries use express services. But the largest users are typically ‘high tech’ parts and manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and business and financial services. • The greatest contribution made by the express industry is in enabling companies in all regions of the world to compete effectively in an increasingly global market. • In 2003 it made a direct contribution to the world GDP of US$64 Billion.

C-TPAT Customs and Border Protection Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) An industry partnership program initiated by the US Customs and Border Protection that enlists importers, carriers, and manufacturers to secure every aspect of the international supply chain against terrorist threat. C-TPAT offers those companies that improve the security of their supply chains expedited processing through Customs and Border Protection. Aim to enhance the security of cargo entering the U.S. while improving the flow of trade.

TAPA is a non profit organization set up in 2000 by representatives from the various electronics and semi-conductor manufacturers, high tech industries, freight forwarders, and professional consulting companies. It is an association of security professionals organized for the purpose of addressing a variety of security threats common to the technology industry by leveraging on best practices and common experiences of its membership.

  10. conclusion • Terrorism and associate threats are here to stay • The introduction of a Global standardized Framework is a necessary component to secure the global economy and essential to drive economic prosperity. • This framework will bring together numerous organizations, currently working independently, and focus their efforts, towards securing the global supply chain. i.e. C-TPAT, TAPA ISO • The introduction of the Approved Economic Operator (AEO) forum will provide a commercial advantage to those who participate in the program. • Numerous positive security implications to both the authorities and the AEO. DHL FULLYY SUPPORT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WCO SAFE FRAMEWORK OF STANDARDS
