  3. Why is it important? Good writers use appropriate punctuation to identify titles of documents

  4. Partner Share Share with your Partner the words that should be capitalized in the sentence. during the summertime, sarah loves to visit disneyland. During the summertime, Sarah loves to visit Disneyland.

  5. Capitalization and Punctuation of Titles Shorter Works- Poems, chapters, short stories, articles Example: The Dog and the Boy • The first word is always capitalized • All nouns, verbs, and adjectives are capitalized • The last word is always capitalized • Use quotation marks around the title. • If you are writing the title in a sentence, place a comma before the quotation marks. • If the title of the story is the END of your sentence, place the period INSIDE of the quotation marks. “The Dog and the Boy” I read the poem, “The Dog and the Boy” in class yesterday. My favorite poem is “The Dog and the Boy.”

Longer Works- books, magazines, movies, plays, TV shows • The first word is always capitalized • All nouns, verbs, and adjectives are capitalized • The last word is always capitalized • Use italics or underline the title. • If you are referring to the title in a sentence, place a comma before and after the title. Ex: Homeward the ArrowFlight - Ex: Homeward the Arrow Flight - Ex: Homeward the Arrow Flight Example: My favorite book, Homeward the Arrow Flight, is about a boy trying to get home on a rocket.
