  2. In every plant.. In Every Plant Water enters ; • Through the roots ( Roots are covered with root hairs) • Up the Stem ( Xylem tube) • Enters the leaf • Exits out the stomata in the leaf

How does water go through a plant? • Cohesion, tension theory - here the effect of water evaporating at the top of the column at the leaves creates a tension which pulls water up to take its place • Root Pressure - since water enters the plant through its roots at the bottom, this creates a pressure at the bottom of the water column which pushes it upwards. • Capillarity - this is when water moves up a thin tube. In plants this occurs due to the attraction between the water molecules and the inside of the xylem tub

  4. What is a root hair? • a hair-forming cell on the epidermis of a plant root hair-forming cell on the epidermis of a plant root • A root hair is so fine that it can easily absorb water this is called osmosis .

  5. How does the root hairs work? • The water moves towards the tiny root hairs and the root hairs actually absorb the water. • After the water enters the root the process continues by cohesion

  6. And what is osmosis? • Osmosis is an area a high concentration of water & a low concentration of sugar that moves to low concentration of water & high concentration of sugar ( This is not only for plants it is also for animals)

  7. What is Cohesion ? • Cohesion of Water is how well it sticks to its self. • Cohesion of water is caused by hydrogen bonds • Adhesion of water is how well it sticks to other substances • water has cohesion, it sticks together so in the phloem of plants the water which is "sticking together" moves upward from the stem. • The force that makes the water move is caused by transpiration

  8. Transpiration • Transpiration is the process where water contained in liquid form in plants is converted to vapor and released to the atmosphere

  9. Water and plants • Water allows plants to take minerals from the soil , plants cant live without soil • Leafs need water to stay healthy and water gives a leaf its shape , if a leaf doesn’t get water it wilts • Water is used for photosynthesis

  10. Photosynthesis • Plants are autotrophs , which means they can make there own food , this is made from the process of photosynthesis. • Water combines with light energy and carbon dioxide in the chloroplast, to make glucose/starch this is called photosynthesis

  11. Photosynthesis Equation Carbon Dioxide+ Water + light energy→ Glucose + Oxygen 6CO2 +6H2O→→C6H12O6+6O2 LIGHT

  13. After Photosynthesis • After photosynthesis takes place , the plant has energy in the form of glucose & starch. • Also the plant has more water and oxygen • On the under side of a leaf there is a small opening called a stomata , the stomata allows carbon dioxide in and water vapor out.
