  4. Today’s Activities • Writing prompt • Share story from group story activity • Spilling Ink assignment • Two truths and a lie • HOMEWORK assignment

Journal Writing Prompt Stream of consciousness • What?: a form of writing in which one simply writes whatever comes to mind without stopping. • Why?: to let your mind just go and turn off that internal editor that tells you your writing isn’t good enough • How?: Just start writing. Don’t worry about editing, flow, organization. It is ok to be disjointed. There will be no requirement to read this to anyone, so it is ok really turn off that editor.

  6. Crafting a story-group activity • As a group you should have selected your favorite story to share. • Review with your group why you picked that one. • Select a reader to read the story to the class. • Pick someone else to be the one to explain why your selected this story the. Purpose of this activity: Develop group dynamic of sharing work, the develop criteria of writing.

  7. Spilling Ink Reading Assignment • Overview of pages 1-11 • Read pages 12-17 in class • Focus especially on the tips on pages 15-17 • What is that I heard? A quiz on the reading at some point? Tuesday we will be looking at the next section on developing characters.

  8. HOMEWORK • Come to class with an idea for a character. Consider doing one of the following: • Think of someone you know • Go someplace with a lot of people. Pick someone who intrigues you and invent a life for them. • Pull from those crazy recesses of your brilliant brains (and yes, you do all have brilliant, creative brains.)

  9. Exit Task-Two truths and a lie • Write your name on the card. • Write down two true and interesting facts about you that others in the class may not know. • Write down one lie. • Turn in the card to me. • Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll pull a few of these each day and try to guess which is true and which is a lie.
