  3. NIST 3-Phase Program • Phase 1:Feasibility study • Up to $90,000 • 6-month award • Phase 2: R&D activities • Up to $300,000 • 2-year award • May require prototype creation and testing • Commercialization plan required • Phase 3: Commercialization phase • Use of non-SBIR funds

  6. NIST SBIR Subtopics • Subtopics Two types of Subtopics in NIST SBIR Solicitation: • Regular (R) subtopics addressing NIST R&D needs • Technology transfer (TT) subtopics identify commercially promising NIST technologies and gaps that delay commercialization

Proposal Evaluation Phase 1 - Step 1Technical merit, Innovation, Responsiveness Quality of facilities and personnel Commercialization potential Phase 1 - Step 2 Potential to meet NIST program prioritiesEconomic impactSBIR Program priorities (manufacturing, energy efficiency, minorities, HUBZones, etc. Phase 2Similar to Step 1 for Phase 1, but greater emphasis on commercial potential
