  1. a-C:H Zn-a-C:H Al-surfaces after exposure for 48 h to a solution of 0.1 M NaCl Nano-active Corrosion Protection for Metals • Concept : • Oxidizing or reducing metallic nano-contacts hinder the corrosion of the metals by adjusting its electrochemical potential. • Effect of nano-textured layers : • Active corrosion protection at micro defects leading to an improvement factor of about 30 in the hydrocarbon matrix (a-C:H). • Advantages : • invisible and biocompatible • substitution of heavy metals ( CrOx, Ni) • wear resistant • reliable processes at reasonable costs • tiny amounts of nano-contacts (e.g. Zn) Impedance spectra of Al-surfaces: untreated, pure a-C:H, Zn-a-C:H Project partners : eig, empa, eicn, ethz, Cartier VLG, ALR, incoat, NANOPRO* CTI/TP 21,* PCT/CH01/00059
