  1. Beth’s Film Brief Handouts

  2. My Film Ideas • The first thing that happens is the girl wakes up and has a text. • She walks to the window and looks out to see it raining this angle will be low down to the left from behind the girl. • The next shot is a close up of the girls face. • The next thing that happens is a quick cut montage of the girl getting her stuff together to go and kill. • The girl then leaves her home and reaches an alleyway where she jumps at a cat screeching. • The next thing that happens is the knocking on the door of the murder victim. • Then the camera cuts to the girl led in bed again, covered in blood.

  3. Target Audience • My target audience is people who want to watch the horror film. It will also be aimed at teenagers who enjoy these films, and preferably both sexes as this means it will reach its maximum target audience. I hope it will be appropriate for the audience, I will do this by making sure it is not too scary, but adding enough suspense and gore to attract people who enjoy that. I think it will be appropriate because I will make sure that I use a lot of shots to add to the dramatic feel to this film. • http://www.calstatela.edu/faculty/sfischo/media3.html in this study, it shows that men prefer horror films to women, and that they have more horror films in their top ten films. This means I may need to edit my target audience.

  4. Unique Selling Point • The unique selling point of my film is the lack of speech in the opening section. The only speech is the words ‘you came’ which are spoken by the girl who gets murdered. This is used for effect and shows that the characters know each other. My other selling point is the dark nature of the film, but with a lack of dramatic events, the only one the murder at the end. I hope to keep the rest of the film dramatic by using short shots and lots of different camera angles.

  5. How Will I Keep the Audience’s Attention • I will keep the interest of the audience by using short shots, having dramatic music and by the inclusion of the montage at the beginning grabbing the knife and the ending where she is covered in blood. The dramatic cuts and lack of transitions will also keep their interest.

  6. Style and Register • The register of the speech in my film will be deadpan and unemotional. The only words said are ‘you came’ and this doesn’t really need to have much impact as the film wouldn’t change if she didn’t say it. • The style of my film is a horror/thriller. I am doing this genre of film as the idea came to me and it was developed in my head before I needed to write it down. I believe that a horror will be exciting to film and this means that I may be able to get across some of the excitement in my final product.

  7. The Message • The message of my film is sadness and loneliness. I have chosen this message because I wanted to create impact and definition for the main character to appear centric to the plot line.
