  1. Presentation on MAIL Variant Configuration Process in SAP Jun 3, 2010

  2. Contents • Creation of characteristics and defining its values • Creation of classes using characteristics • Creation of KMAT Material • Assigning classes to KMAT Material • Defining Super BOM for KMAT Material • Defining dependencies for components of super BOM • Creation of FERT • Assigning classes to FERT • Assigning KMAT to FERT and select configuration of FERT • Creation of Sales order by selecting KMAT • After selection of characteristics – jump to FERT • Generate sales BOM (from super BOM) and forward to production order Variant BOM Configuration Process- MAIL & Unisoft Team-Pune Jun 3, 2010

  3. MAIL will have 3 KMAT material types • (at this stage) • ECP3 • ECO28 • ECO32 • In future, if additional series added new KMAT type • will be generated.

  4. For ECP3 KMAT Type, created 1 class : • CM_MAIL

  5. Class CM_MAIL Characteristics and their values follows:

  6. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Stack Lengths Characteristic name Characteristic Values

  7. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Poles Number

  8. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Construction form evaluation

  9. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Flying Wheel

  10. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Voltage

  11. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Frequency(HZ)

  12. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL Power Rating(KVA)

  13. Characteristics of Class CM_MAIL RPM

  14. Characteristics defined (along with their values) are : Stack lengths Poles number Construction form evaluation Flying wheel Voltage (Leads) Frequency Power rating RPM CM_MAIL Definition of class : Class name given : CM_MAIL

  15. There is only CLASS defined as shown 1) CM_MAIL (Characteristics)

  16. Defining KMAT – Configurable Material – MODEL ECP3 N • Steps : • - Define Super BOM (all the Components required to produce the ECP 3 NSeries) • - Assign classes • Define Object Dependency (OD) to particular component (listed in Super BOM)

  17. Defined KMAT material and assigned classes After creating class, created one KMAT material : MODEL ECP3 N and assigned class defined earlier as below - KMAT Material KMAT ECP3N Classes assigned Class CM-MAIL Characteristics of classes Characteristics

  18. Defined Super BOM for KMAT Material MODEL ECP3 KMAT KMAT Material Super BOM Super BOM Right mark on OD column Defines some dependency Object Dependency No right mark indicates Component is common for ECP3 series

  19. Defining dependency for particular material listed in Super BOM OD has been defined as : STACKLENGTH='1s'and mpHASE='1'and MOUNTING='SAE 3/10'and POLESNUMBER='4‘ This particular component will be picked up From super BOM when this combination Is selected by user STACKLENGTH='1s'and mpHASE='1'and MOUNTING='SAE 3/10'and POLESNUMBER='4‘

  20. Creation of FERT CODE – STEP 1 One FERT Code created 31900100 (of ECP 3 N series) Assigned all the classes created to this FERT code using Classification view FERT CODE With Class Characteristics

  21. Creation of FERT CODE – STEP 2 Assigned KMAT material (MODEL ECP3 N) using MRP3 view Kmat ECP3 N Assign in MRP 3

  22. Creation of FERT CODE – STEP 3 Selection of all characteristics and their values of the particular FERT. (It will create link which will help jumping to FERT when we select characteristics while Creating sales order) FERT CODE FERT code Characteristics & Values Configuration selection

  23. All configuration set….. Creation of sales order

  24. Creation of Sales order (for ECP 3 Nseries alternator) – STEP 1 Select KMAT (configurable material ) MODEL ECP 3 N in Sales order (for ECP 3 type alternator), enter quantity KMAT Quantity KMAT –MODEL ECP3

  25. Creation of Sales order (for ECP 3N series alternator) – STEP 2 Select all the configuration (characteristic and their values) referring the customer order Screen 1 – Characteristic & values

  26. Creation of Sales order (for ECP 3 series alternator) – STEP 3 Select all the configuration (characteristic and their values) referring the customer order Screen 2 – Characteristic & values After selecting all the characteristic and their values, Click on Variant Matching as shown by arrow mark. Considering the characteristic & values selected, system will automatically jump to the FERT Code 319100100 (for which we’ve created all the configuration in previous slides)

  27. Creation of Sales order (for ECP 3 series alternator) – STEP 4 Once system jumps to suitable FERT code (considering the characteristics, which decides FERT code), other characteristics like Frequency , RPM , Power Rating(KVA), flying wheel , Dew Heater & other parameters can be selected, After selecting all the characteristic save that particular sales order. Now it all required characteristics to produce one alternator as per customer requirement. SYSTEM WILL NOW GENERATE SALES BOM FOR THE ALTERNATOR AS PER CHARACTERISTICS SELECTED AND THE SAME WILL BE REFERRED TO GENERATE PRODUCTION ORDER.

  28. Sales BOM generated for the alternator (as per customer order) referring which production order will be released. These are Components , which are required to produce one Alternator as per Sales Order Required These are the Classes

  29. Key Points • There will only 3 KMAT material types for MAIL at this juncture as MAIL will be producing these 3 series only • If new series is added in future, new KMAT code to be added • Change in bill of material will have a new FERT code • Characteristics like Stack length, Poles number, Phase and mounting will be deciding factor for new FERT code. If any of the value changes, there will be new FERT code • Change in values of characteristics like voltage, frequency, RPM will not affect the FERT code. • FERT codes to be entered in system using the procedure described at once. • System will always automatically jump to the FERT code already defined in system if characteristics matches • If required characteristic doesn’t matches to the existing FERT code, it means user needs to generate create new FERT code for that specific configuration.

  30. THANK YOU.
