  6. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 234 • English Grammar Connection: Reflexive Verbs and Reflexive Pronouns show that the subject of a sentence both does and receives the action of the verb. The reflexive pronoun in English end in –self of –selves. She dried herself with a towel. Ella se secó con una toalla.

  7. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 234 • Use Reflexive Pronouns with Reflexive Verbs when the subject in a sentence is the same as its objects. • Here’s how: Lavarse (to wash oneself) Me lavo nos lavamos Te lavas os laváis Se lava se lavan

  8. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 234 • Many verbs can be used with or without reflexive pronouns. When there is no reflexive pronouns, the person doing the action does not receive the action. Anita se lava. Anita lava los platos. Anita washes herself. Anita washes the dishes. • Do not use possessive adjectives with reflexive verbs. Use the definite article instead. Anita se lava la cara. Anita is washing her face.

  9. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 234 • When an infinitive follows a conjugated verb, the reflexive pronoun can be placed before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive. Me voy a acostar a las once. or Voy a acostarme a las once. I’m going to go to bed at eleven. • Some verbs have different meanings when used reflexively. dormir  to sleep dormirse  to fall asleep poner  to put ponerse  to put on (clothes)

  10. Pronunciaciónpg. 239 • In Spanish, vowels are divided into two categories: strong and weak. A, e, and o are the strong vowels; i and u are weak. A weak vowel with another vowel forms one sound, called a dipthong. Igualmente demasiado afeitarse ciudad • If there are two consecutive vowel, and one has an accent mark, then each vowel is pronounced separately. The same is true for two strong vowels. día país frío leí toalla zoológico peor leer

  11. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 240 • Present Progressive: To form the present progressive in Spanish, use the present tense of estar + a present participle. • Here’s how: To inform the present participle of a verb, drop the ending of the infinitive and add –ando or –iendo. -ar verbs -er verbs -ir verbs caminar -ando poner -iendo abrir -iendo caminando poniendo abriendo Estamos poniendo la mesa. We are setting the table.

  12. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 240 • When the stem of an –er or –ir verbs end in a vowel, change the –iendo to –yendo. leer  leyendo traer  trayendo • The e  I stem-changing verbs have a vowel change in the stem. pedir  pidiendo servir  sirviendo vestir  vistiendo • Some other verbs also have a vowel change in the stem. decir  diciendo venir  viniendo dormir  durmiendo

  13. Presentación de Gramáticapg. 240 • Place pronouns before the conjugated form of estar or attach them to the end of the present participle. Add an accent when you attach a pronoun. Me estoy vistiendo. or I’m getting dressed. Estoy vistiendome.
