  10. Sample Body Paragraph Friar Laurence is most certainly to blame for the young couple’s demise. For example, when Romeo asks him to secretly marry him and Juliet, Friar Laurence says he will, “For this alliance may so happy prove, /To turn your households’ rancour to pure love” (Act I, scene III). The word “may” suggests that the outcome is uncertain. Friar Laurence only thinks about how it might help the families’ feud and does not consider other possible outcomes. He also tells Juliet to take a potion that will make her appear dead so that she and Romeo can run away together after Romeo is told about the plan (Act IV, scene 1) . This irresponsible advice is also short sighted. He does not consider that Romeo might not get the message, and the result is tragic. If Friar Laurence had not meddled so much in Romeo and Juliet’s lives, it might not have led to their doom.
