  1. The American Dream US set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the US declaration of Independence  which proclaims that “all men are created equal " and that they are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

  2. For many immigrants, the statue of liberty  was their first view of the United States, signifying new opportunities in life. The statue is an iconic symbol of the American Dream.

  12. Langston Hughes (1902-1967) American poet, social activist, novelist, playwritght and columnist. He was one of the earliest innovators of the then-new literary art form called jazz poetry. Hughes is best known as a leader of the Harlem Renaissance. This Land Is Your Landwords and music by Woody Guthrie • One of the most famous American folk songs. • Bruce Springsteen released a live version of it on Live/1975-85 and called it 'one of the most beautiful songs ever written'. • It was written in 1940 by Woody Guthrie in response to Irving Berlin God Bless America, which he considered unrealistic and complacent.
