Ask the Athletic Training Staff (Dana, Casey, or TK) BEFORE you put anything in your body… what goes in your body is your responsibility The NCAA conducts drug testing year round (academic year and summer) Please contact Sports Medicine regarding any medications or supplements you are taking. For an updated NCAA Banned Drug List see the Athletic Training Staff, Compliance Office or online at: http://www.ncaa.org/2018-19-ncaa-banned-drugs-list

DrugTestingPolicies NCAA Policy • Testsrandomlyadministeredyear round • A no-showfor a NCAAdrug testacts asanautomatic positive. • Youmay notmissclass for aNCAAdrugtest. • Penalties for anything “other” than street drugs: • 1st positive:Onecalendaryear suspensionfromallcompetitionandlossofa year ofeligibility. • 2ndpositive: Loss ofremainingeligibility. • Penalties for “street drugs: • 1st positive: Loss of competition during a minimum of 50% of a season from all competition • You must re-test negative in order to re-enter competition after the penalty has been served for any positive test **You signed the form, so you have agreed to be drug tested

DrugTestingPolicies Cont’d UVa-WisePolicy • Testsadministeredbasedonnormalteam testing, and randomly. • Penalties: • 1st positive test: • The AthleticsDirector and HeadCoachwillbenotifiedofthepositive test. • Sanctions: 50% of contests will be missed and a mandatory educational session with a UVa-Wise campus counselor. • 2ndpositive test: • No longer a student-athlete at UVa-Wise and you lose your athletics financial aid • If you test positive for a NCAA drug test and then test positive in a UVa-Wise drug test, we consider that 2 failed drug tests

Freshman Eligibility • NCAA EligibilityCenter • Inorderto compete, youmust becertifiedas anAcademic Qualifierandas an Amateur. • Inorderto practice, youmust becertified asanacademic qualifier andanamateurbythe 45thday ofpractice. • After the 45 days is up and you do not have a qualification status • —You Can No Longer Practice

Eligibility • Allstudent-athletes must be enrolledfull-time(12 hours) to practiceandcompeteunless you are in your last semester and have gotten approval from the Compliance Office to drop below 12 hours. *Major declared prior to Junior year (5th semester) **Where to go for help? FinancialAid • Athletic Scholarships are one-year (1) agreements • Subject to Renewal every year, but may be Reduced or Cancelled • If you disagree, you are entitled to an Appeal through a Hearing. • An awardmay notbecancelled or decreasedduringthe periodoftheaward except ifyou: • Withdrawfromclasses; • Dropbelowafull-timecourseload; • Renderyourselfineligibleforcompetition; • Fraudulentlymisrepresentanyinformationonan application,NLIorwith the NCAA; • Engageinseriousmisconductwarranting substantial disciplinarypenalty(e.g.studentconductissues); • Voluntarilywithdrawfrom yourteam atanytimeforpersonalreasons • If your aid has found to have exceeded your individual or your team limit, your scholarship can be reduced

ComplimentaryAdmissions Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball (ONLY) • For sports thatchargeadmission,eachstudent-athleteonthat team is permitteda maximumof four (4) complimentaryadmissionsto eachevent providedthrougha pass list. • Complimentarytickets areadministered through ARMS • Allindividualson the Pass List must presenta photoID in ordertosignthe pass list andenter theevent. • If theydonothaveanID, they willnot be permitted complimentary admission the event and must pay to enter as any other fan would.

Seasons ofCompetition • Youhave4years of eligibilitytousewithin 10 semesters of Full-Time enrollment. • Exceptions • Redshirt/Non-participation • Medicalhardship • If youdon’tmeetoneoftheexceptions,youuseone year of eligibility(evenifyoucompetefor onlyonesecondofonecontestorjustasingleplaytheentire year). • If you do notcompetefora singlesecondor playthe entireyear,you will preserveoneofyour4years of eligibility. (Redshirt)

Medical Hardship • If youcompete,butsuffera SEASON-ENDINGINJURYORILLNESS,itmaybepossibletoapplyto theMountain East Conferenceto regainthatyearof eligibility,butyoumusttalkto yourCoach, ComplianceOffice, and Athletic Training Staff. • Requirements: • You have not participated in more than 3 contests/dates of competition or more than30% ofUVa-Wise’s totalcontests/ dates of competition during the first half of the playing season.

  13. PlayingandPracticeSeasons • CountableAthleticallyRelatedActivity (CARA):Anyrequiredactivitywithanathleticspurpose involving student-athletesandat thedirectionof,orsupervisedby, oneormoreofan institution’s coaching staff(includingstrengthcoaches). Administrativeactivitiesshallnotbeconsideredcountableathleticallyrelatedactivities. • Countableactivities: Practice,Weights/Conditioning, Competition,Team Meetings,FilmReviewwithcoaches • Non-countableactivities:Compliance meetings,pre-practicetrainingroomvisits, • injuryrehabappointments, voluntaryworkouts • In-Season limits: • 4 hours ofCARAina day; • 20hours ofCARAina week; • 1dayoffperweek (traveldaycanbeyourdayoff); • Competitioncountsas 3hours; • No classesmissedforpracticeactivities; • No Limits During Vacation Periods

PlayingandPracticeSeasons cont. • Out-Of-Season limits: • Whenyouareout-of-season,youmay engageonlyinstrength&conditioning activitiesandskillinstruction,withthe followinglimits: • 8totalhours ofCARA each week. • Team Activities OR Skillinstructioncanbeup to2ofthe8hours inaweek. • Each sport has a differentlimitonthenumberofstudent-athletes takingpartatanyone timeduring the out-of-season portion. • 2days offeachweek. • During 45-day window:Except Golf & Tennis • 15 hours of CARA each week • 2 days off each week

  16. Finals Week and CARA… • AllCARAareprohibitedoneweekprior to the beginningofeachfinalexaminationperiod throughtheconclusion ofeachstudent- athlete’sfinalexamsIFyourteamisout-of-season or is notparticipating inpostseason contention.

Voluntary Workouts… • Inorderforanyathleticallyrelated activitytobeconsidered "voluntary,"allof the followingconditionsmustbemet: • Mustnotberequiredtoreportbacktoa coachorother staffmember (e.g.,strength coach,trainer,manager); • Non-coachingstaffmemberswhoobservetheactivity(e.g.,strength coach,trainer,manager)maynotreportbacktothe coachany informationrelated totheactivity; • Mustbeinitiatedandrequestedsolelybythe student-athlete (NOT required); • Attendanceandparticipation(orlackthereof)maynotberecordedfor thepurposesofreportingsuchinformationtoa coachorteammates; • Mustnotbe subjectedtopenaltyifyouelectnottoparticipateinthe activity;and • Norecognitionorincentivescanbegivenbased onattendanceor • performance.

  19. ExtraBenefits • Asa student-athlete,youmaynotaccept anythingthatisnotavailabletothegeneralpublic orgeneralstudentbody. • An extra benefit is any special arrangement by an institutional employee or arepresentativeoftheinstitution'sathleticsintereststoprovideastudent-athleteorthestudent-athlete’s friend or relative a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. • Receiptofabenefitbystudent-athletesortheirrelativesorfriendsisnotaviolationof NCAAlegislationifitisdemonstratedthatthesamebenefitisgenerallyavailabletothe instruction's students or their relatives or friends determined on a basis unrelated toathletics ability. • Examples: • Unadvertiseddiscounts Tickets to games/concerts • Gifts Transportation/travel Personal training services/facility use • Clothing Anything received from a Booster • FinancialLoan Free/Discounted services Free or Reduced rent • Free meals at restaurants

UnethicalConduct • The NCAA’sunethicalconduct legislation appliesto allcurrentand prospective student-athletesand current andformerinstitutionalemployees(e.g.coach, professor,tutor, teachingassistant, student manager, studenttrainer) • Actions will constituteunethicalconduct includebutare notlimitedto: • RefusaltocooperateorprovidingfalseinformationduringanNCAAinvestigation; • Knowing involvementinacademic fraudfora prospectiveoranenrolled student-athlete; • Knowinglyofferingorprovidingeitherdirectlyorindirectly animproperofferorinducementtoa prospectivestudent-athlete; • Knowinglyofferingorprovidingeitherdirectlyorindirectly anextrabenefittoa currentstudent-athlete; • Receiving benefitsfor facilitatingorarranginga meeting betweenastudent-athleteandanagent,financial advisororrunner; • Knowing involvementinprovidinga bannedsubstanceorimpermissiblesupplementtostudent-athletes; • FailuretoprovidecompleteandaccurateinformationtotheNCAA orinstitution'sadmissions officeregardingan individual'sacademicrecord(e.g., schoolsattended,completion of coursework,grades and test scores);or • Fraudulenceormisconduct inconnectionwithentranceorplacement examinations. • Engagingin anyoftheaboveactsof unethicalconductmayleadto: • ExpulsionfromUVa-Wise • Permanent loss of Athletics Eligibility • When you are asked about something…TELL THE TRUTH

  21. Hazing, Amateurism, & Agents • Hazing—is anyconduct or methodofinitiation intoanystudentorganizationwhich endangersthephysicalor mentalhealthof anystudentorotherperson. • **Zero tolerance for hazing at UVa-Wise** • Amateurism—can’t sign a professional contract and can’t receive payment for playing. • Agents—NCAAdefines an agent as anyindividualwho,directlyorindirectly: • a) Representsorattemptsto representan individualforthepurposeof marketinghisorher athleticsabilityorreputationforfinancialgain; or • b) Seeks to obtainanytype offinancialgain orbenefitfor securing aprospective student- athlete’senrollment at aneducationalinstitutionorfromastudent-athlete’s potentialearnings as a professionalathlete.

  22. Gambling • The NCAAdefines sportswageringas placing,acceptingor solicitingawager of any typewithany individualororganizationonany intercollegiate,amateur or professional teamor contest. • All UVa-Wise athleticsstaffandstudent-athletesare prohibitedfromwageringany itemofvalueinexchange for thepossibilityofgaininganotheritemofvalue. • The sportswageringprohibitionextends toanyinstitutionalpracticeorcompetitionina sportinwhichtheNCAAconductsachampionship,inbowl subdivisionfootballand inemergingsportsforwomen. • Engaginginsportswageringis a form ofunethicalconduct.   23. Promoting Businesses, Autographs, Social Media, & Tobacco • Promoting Businesses—you can’t promote any commercial product, service, or enterprise by lending your name, picture or appearance. (No Endorsements) • Includes your social media accounts. • Autographs—may not profit from sales of any autographed items. • All media requests must be approved by and facilitated by the Sports Information Director and Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations. • Social Media—be smart! • Tobacco Products—Do not use them, it is against NCAA rules. Boosters • A representative ofathleticsinterestis anyonewho: • Hasmade financialcontributionsto theathleticsdepartmentorto thehighland CavalierClub; • Has beenrequestedbytheathleticsdepartmentstaff to assistin the recruitmentof prospectsoris assistingintherecruitmentof prospects; • Has assistedoris assistingin providingbenefitsto enrolled student-athletes;or • Is otherwiseinvolvedin promoting the institution’sathleticsprogram. • BoostersareresponsibleforabidingbytheNCAAlegislationjustlike allUVa-Wisestudent- athletesandstaffmembers.

  25. Contact the Compliance Office If… Employment: • Student-athletesare allowed to beemployedduring theacademic year. • Ifyoudogainemploymentduring theacademic year—Contact the Compliance Office to fill out the Employment form. • Compensationforall employment must be: • Onlyforworkactuallyperformed;and • At aratecommensuratewiththegoing rateinthelocalityforsimilarservices. Fee-for-Lesson: • Student-athletesare allowed to be compensatedfor teachingor coaching sport skills ortechniquesinhis orhersport ona fee-for-lessonbasis. • Several criteriamust bemet: • UVa-Wise facilities can be used w/PRIOR APPROVAL; Actual Instruction….no playing pickup games;AFee-for-LessonFormiscompleted;Therecipientof thelessonorhisorher familypayfor thelessonandnotanother individualorentity;Forgrouplessons,instructionisprovidedtoeach individualasifinaprivate lesson;andYour name,picture, orappearance is not usedtopromoteoradvertisetheavailabilityofthefee-for-lessonsessions.

Contact the Compliance Office If… Cont. • Promotional/Volunteer Activities: (Outside your Sports Team) • Asked to participate in any volunteer activities in the community (e.g.reading toalocal elementaryschoolclass,speaking atyourformerhigh school, etc.) • Youmayreceiveactual andnecessaryexpensesfor participating intheevent(e.g.meal andtransportation). • Out-of-Season Competition: • Duringthe intercollegiateyear,athletesmaynot participateonanyoutsideteaminanycompetition. • Youmaycompeteifyouareout-of-seasonduringan officialUVa-Wisevacationperiod(semesterbreak, springbreak, summer break). • Competitionas individual(“unattached”), Open Event, Pay your own expenses, Do Not Wear UVa-Wise-issued apparel. • Advisors and/or Lawyers: • Can’t give you free legal advice, you have to pay the going rate. • Contact me before you have a conversation with an advisor and/or lawyer.

  27. RecruitingandOfficialVisits • Youmaybeaskedtoserveasa studenthostforaPSA comingoncampuson anofficial visit. • Prospectsare permitted tobe oncampusfora maximum of48 hourson anofficialvisit. • $30per daytoentertainyourselfandthe prospect. • Studenthostmoneyis not tobegivento theprospect. • Youmay notpurchasesouvenirsfor the prospect(e.g. UVa--Wise hator t-shirt). • If youhostmultiple student-athletes,it is permissiblefor youtoreceiveanextra$15per dayfor eachadditionalprospectyouhost. • As a studenthostyou represent UVa-Wise. Please rememberthe following: • Youmay NOT: • Make availableorprovidea prospectwith alcohol,drugs,gamblingactivities,sex, or sexual entertainment. • Takeaprospectmore than30 milesfrom UVa-Wise’scampus. • Usevehiclesprovided orarrangedby a coach,staffmember,orbooster. • Allow recruitingconversationstohappenbetweenthe prospectandboosters. • Youmay: • Engageinrecreational orworkoutactivities(e.g.pickupgames) aslongasacoachis notpresent andyoudonotreportthe prospect’s performance back toa coach.

  28. UnofficialVisits • The prospect visits UVa-Wise and pays for their own expenses. • As a studenthostyoumay entertain the prospect ONLY on-campus. • You cannot provide ANYTHING to the prospect (i.e.: do not buy them meals (do not let them use your meal plan card) and do not provide them transportation • No impermissible/inappropriate entertainment activities. • REMEMBER: You are representing yourself, UVa-Wise, your team and your coaches…please make sure to think about the appropriateness of activities you engage in…

  31. Email Setup for Your Phone • UVa-Wise E-mail Setup for Android1. Open Settings, select Accounts2. Select Add Account3. You will be at the Set-Up accounts menu with several other social network icons.4. Select Corporate Sync or Exchange ActiveSync5. Enter your e-mail address and password in the required fields then click Continue at the warning screen6. In the domain\username field enter: uvawise\username 7. Enter the server: webmail.uvawise.edu8. Select Next to set your synchronization settings9. Click Activate to enable the device administrator10. Continue clicking next until the setup is complete
