Bearings

Bearings. Bearings are a method used to measure angles on maps and compasses. They are a way of showing a direction just like North, East, South and West. Bearings can also show any direction in between. NW. NE. E. W. SE. SW. S. Bearings measure the angle from north.

  2. Bearings are a method used to measure angles on maps and compasses. They are a way of showing a direction just like North, East, South and West. Bearings can also show any direction in between.

  4. Bearings measure the angle from north. Bearings are always measured in a clockwise direction.

  6. We can use the angles on a bearing to make triangles and then use Trigonometry to work out questions.

  7. Questions • Joe walks on a bearing of 32 degrees for a distance of 4km. How far north has Joe walked? • Samantha walks at a bearing of 124 degrees for 1100m. How far east has Samantha walked? • Cherie looks at a nearby tree. It is on a bearing of 200 degrees from her. If the tree is 12m away from her how far south is it?
