  2. Literature • Literature was VERY important to their culture. • Some notable and important writers were… • Livy. C Valerius Catullus (84 BCE-54 BCE) • He had a wealthy family • His works were filled with character analysis. • Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 BCE-43 BCE)- • was a writer, orator, politician, and statesman. • was elected into council and served as a governor in Cilicia. • Wrote at least 800 private letters. • They revealed a great deal about Cicero and his society . • Titus Livius (59 BCE-17 CE)- • wrote books about the history of Rome. • He wrote 142 volumes but only 35 survived.

  3. Architecture • They had immense palaces, stadiums, temples, and victory arches. • This showed the impressive testimony of Rome’s grandeur. • We still find buildings with roman style architecture around the world. • Romans made larger building then Greece. • They invented concrete.

  4. Painting and Sculpture • Painters were not considered important members of society • They liked Still life subjects. • Portraits were popular. • Mosaics were also popular. It was a picture or pattern made from small chips of colored stone or marble.
