The Different Styles of Roman Architecture • During the Roman republic, the Romans used Temple Architecture. • They blended Etruscan & Greek features • Put the most emphasis on the front of the buildings. • Concrete: • Helped create a Revolution in Architectural design • Created larger & heavier buildings

  4. Continued.. • Arch and Vault • Examples: • Coliseum • Public baths • Dome • Basilicas • Large and Relatively large space • Examples: • Parthenon • Early Christian Churches

  5. 3 types of Columns • Doric Style: 1st & most basic, single purpose-> hold up large buildings • Ionic Style: same purpose, more flair->decorative base and top • Corinthian style: fine decorative details, huge, served to hold up buildings & increase the awe of the people

  12. Art & Architecture bring new tech. Macadam roads- roads that were built with a smooth hard surface that would be more durable and less muddy than soil based tracks. Arch bridge- bridge with curved arches at each end that help transfer weight from one side to the other, to keep the bridge stable.   Aqueducts- similar to a bridges; used to carry water across the city. one of the greatest souvenirs of Roman engineering.
