1. Why Proton VPN Doesn’t Offer SOCKs5 Proxies In this increasingly digital era, there’s a growing concern over online security and privacy. With ever- present cybersecurity threats to deal with, users and businesses alike are looking for ways to protect their data. As a result, using VPN and proxies has become the new norm, and one such proxy is a SOCKs5 proxy. However, not all VPN services offer SOCKs5 proxies. Here’s an explanation of why. But first, What is a SOCKs5 proxy? A proxy is a server sitting between your device and the internet and shields your data from being exposed when surfing the internet. When surfing the internet without a proxy portal, all browsing requests are sent directly between your device and the sites you are browsing. This means that your IP address and any other sensitive information is visible to everyone. However, with a proxy, this data is protected as they mask your IP address and route all your browsing requests through their IP address. Similarly, all responses are sent to the proxy, which then forwards this info to your device, granting you anonymity. A SOCKs5 proxy portal is an additional feature some virtual private networks offer that allows users to spoof (fake) their virtual location. It enables you to hide your IP address from online services by creating an arbitrary IP address. It is the latest version of the Socket Secure network protocol and supports various authentication methods. Why Proton VPN does not offer a SOCKs5 proxy While a SOCKs5 proxy offers better performance and requires no special setup, it does not encrypt your data and can lower your internet’s speed and stability. This means anyone can intercept your data and use it for malicious intent. This means that if you use a VPN with a SOCKs5 proxy, your data is not fully encrypted and is susceptible to malicious attacks such as a man-in-the-middle attack. This is a cyberattack where an attacker secretly eavesdrops, intercepts, relays, and even alters data between two or more parties who believe they are communicating with each other. For instance, you want to communicate with John, but Janis wants to intercept this communication, deliver a fake message to John, and make it look like it came from you. Since the goal of using a proxy or VPN is protecting your data, this proxy has failed and leaves you susceptible to malicious attacks. This vulnerability is why Proton VPN does not and will never offer SOCKs5 proxy connections. If you are looking for a secure way to protect your data, a VPN is the best way to go redirects your device’s traffic through an encrypted VPN tunnel secured using robust VPN protocols. For instance, Proton VPN uses AES-256 to secure OpenVPN connections, RSA- 4096 to secure transport layer security (TLS) key exchanges, and HMAC SHA-384 hash authentication to confirm TLS certificates. Data transferred is secured using

 2. Advanced Encryption Standard with Galois Counter Mode (AES-GCM) and several other encryption suites. While a SOCKs5 proxy will hide your IP address, it is still detectable and not as secure or as fast as a VPN. Its lack of encryption leaves you open to attacks and might not allow you to get around the national firewall restrictions. That's why Proton VPN does not offer a SOCKs5 proxy.
