1. What type of gum keeps its flavor for the longest? Viridiana Lara 8th grade Dirksen Junior High School

2. Objective • To find out which of my three gum brands keep their flavor the longest.

3. Hypothesis • If I chew the big red, double mint, and juicy fruit gum, than the big red gum will keep its flavor for the longest amount of time.

4. Variables • Independent variable: Gum brand • Dependant variable: Each gums flavor lasted its own amount of time to lose its flavor.

5. Materials • clock • Juicy Fruit gum • Double mint gum • Big Red gum • mouth

6. Procedure Step 1- Buy the gum needed. Step 2- Chew gum until flavor is out. Step 3- Keep track of how many minutes the flavor lasted. Step 4- Record how much time the flavor lasted. Step 5- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for a total of 3 trials for all three gum brands.

10. Conclusion • My lab turned out well because my hypothesis did support my results. • I accepted my hypothesis using the data I collected because I think I did my experiment correctly and when I added and divided ,my average results were constant. • My lowest average was juicy fruit.

11. Conclusion (continued) • My lowest average was juicy fruit. • The highest average was the big red gum. • Some possible errors that could have occurred were probably not keeping track of how much time the flavor lasted the right way.

12. Conclusion (continued) • One thing I learned was that neither of these three gum brands keeps their flavor for a long time. • Now I know that when I buy gum, neither of these three gum brands are a good choice.
