Upcoming Dates… Thursday, February 18th Handbook test, Student Evaluation due 7:00 PM LGI/ DHS Tuesday, February 23rd 4:00pm Eligible list posted on bulletin board by the girls locker room, outside Ms. Jewell’s room 2123, and sent to jr. high coaches Thursday, February 25th Tryout meeting 7:00 PM LGI/ DHS www.pearlandisd.org/webpages/cjewell

Phase 1 Process Student Evaluation Grades – 3rd six weeks report card (you must also bring your Feb. 11th progress report) • We will not accept prints from Skyward, transcripts, etc. The only report cards we will accept are the original or copy of the original. Attendance Office referrals ISS assignments Handbook test 50 questions – 25 multiple choice, 25 True/False Candidates must receive 35 points in order to be eligible to tryout in March. Students earning 35 points from the Student Evaluation must still also take the handbook test. List of students who earn the required number of points will be posted by the DHS girls locker room by Ms. Jewell’s room 2123 as well as emailed to the junior high coaches by Feb. 23rd.

  4. Tryout Eligibility • Students in grades 8-11 are eligible to tryout for cheerleader if all of the following • qualifications are met: • 1. Candidate must successfully complete the pre-tryout process. • Prior to tryouts candidate and parent must sign and return a form stating they have • been informed of the tryout process and agree to comply with the guidelines and • information provided in the tryout packet. This document and other required • documents listed in the tryout packet must be turned in to the cheerleading coaches by • the designated time. • Candidate has been enrolled in PISD since the first day of the first six weeks of the • semester of tryouts. Candidates in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade must have been enrolled in • the high school for which they desire to try out by the first day of the first six weeks of • the semester of tryouts. • 4. Candidate has no U’s in conduct and no more than two N’s during the current • school year. • Candidate must end the semester prior to tryouts with a grade of 70 or higher in all • subjects. • www.pearlandisd.org/webpages/cjewell

  5. Tryout Eligibility 6. Candidate must not have been academically ineligible according to the UIL “No Pass No Play” standard for any two six week grading periods prior to cheerleading tryouts. 7. Candidate, at anytime during the current school year, must not have been expelled from school, suspended from school or had an ALA / DAEP assignment at any Pearland ISD school or at any school outside of the district. 8. Candidate, at anytime during the current school year must not have had more than 3 days of ISS for any reason. 9.Candidate, if a previous cheerleader, must not have voluntarily forfeited his/her cheerleading position during the previous school year. 10. Candidate, if a previous cheerleader, must not have forfeited his/her cheerleading position twice during his/her cheer career in Pearland ISD. 11. Candidate must not owe the cheer program any monies. 12. Candidates enrolling in a Pearland ISD school from another school district are held to the standards identified in this document. These candidates’ discipline and academic eligibility are verified to insure compliance.

  6. Tryout Eligibility 13. Candidates who are trying out for the first time as a high school cheerleader or who have tried unsuccessfully and are trying out again, must demonstrate a standing back handspring during the pre-tryout process as part of their tumbling and jump criteria. *Exceptions: This qualification will begin with DHS Freshmen and any other non returning DHS cheerleader when tryouts for the 2010-2011 school year are held. This does not apply to mascots at any campus.

Please remember… • If you lose something, all of the paperwork is on our website under the Tryout link. • Start early on the Student Evaluation • Bring with you all correct paperwork on Thursday.
