  2. Title: Predicto Gets a Clue Reading Goal: Predicting Team Cooperation Goal: Everyone Participates Genre: Expository Author:

  3. Today you learn that by helping and supporting your partners and teammates as you make predictions, everyone will learn more.

  4. Team Cooperation Goal Everyone Participate.

  5. Building Background Think back to the first part of the DVD. Do you remember why Adam, Elinor, Amy, and Daniel went to see Predcto at the fair? They were looking for a way to make it easier for Daniel to read expository text, weren’t they? That’s what good partners and teammates do. They help one another learn. Can you think of other things you’ve seen the friends do when they’re working as partners? Do you think being good partners and teammates is helping them all learn more?.

  6. Building Background • Making predictions helped Adam, Elinor, Amy, and Daniel learn about the USS Constellation Museum. But before they decide whether to vote to go there, they’ll need to read the Maryland Science Center brochure. I’’ bet making predictions will help them read and understand it. Turn to the brochure on page 17 on your Student’s Viewing Guide. As we watch the DVD, let’s pay attention to the way the friends work together as partners. Maybe we’ll learn something we can use to become better partners. .

  7. Team Talk Let’s preview the questions. • What do you think Amy and Daniel did to be good partners for each other? • What clues did Elinor use to predict that part 1 would be about uncovering the mystery of why dinosaurs disappeared? • Did Elinor confirm her prediction? Did she learn anything that she didn’t predict? What was it? • Did you learn something about dinosaurs that you didn’t predict? What was it?

  8. DVD Viewing • Show part 5 of the DVD: “The Fascinating Science of …Maryland?” • (6 minutes)

  9. Team Discussion-35 Minutes • Discuss answers to team talk questions • Write answers to question 1 – 4 • View DVD if Necessary.

  10. Class Discussion • Review the questions and the team discussions? • View DVD if there is some doubt.

  11. Adam, Elinor, Amy, and Daniel did a good job predicting what the Maryland Science Center brochure would be mostly be mostly about and the main ideas of part 1. You did too. I like the way you explained the clues you used. Wasn’t it great the way Elinor shared what she’d read about dinosaurs—that no one knows for sure why dinosaurs disappeared? How do you think that helped Adam? Sharing background information is one way partners can help each other make, change, or add on to their predictions. Who can tell me another way partners can help each other predict?

  12. Predicto’s Challenge • Predicto has another challenge for use. Lets see how well we can work together as partners to respond to it. The challenge is on page 9 of your Student’s Viewing Guide. Read it with me.

  13. Greetings, Ladies and gentlemen, I just happen to know that there’s another exciting exhibit at the Maryland Science Center. It’s called the Birth of Aviation. What do you think that’s about? Lets predict! • On your own, predict the main ideas of part 1, 2, and 3 of the information on page 10. • Discuss your predictions and clues with your partners. • Write your predictions and clues in your journals. • Take turns reading the paragraphs. • Find the main ideas. Do you confirm you predictions? Why or why not? Wishing I had a partner to work with, I remain, The Incredible Predicto.
