  3. Class Requirements 25% Participation (Bringing instrument to class, bringing music, turning in small assignments, etc) 25% Performances (Emergency excuses accepted in writing or email only) 25% Practice Logs (4 hours every two weeks OR SmartMusic) 25% PE Logs (8 hours every month)

  4. This year’s performance schedule: Advanced Band The full schedule was handed out to you tonight. Highlights are as follows: • Encinitas Holiday Parade – Sat, Dec 6 • Winter Concert – Thurs, Dec 11 • Festival Competition – Sat, April 25 • Spring Concert – Thurs, June 4

Materials Needed • Instrument - We have a limited number of school instruments – if many students have their own or can rent from a music store, they can free these up for other students. • Instrument Supplies – cleaning swabs, reeds (which wear out quickly and need to be replaced), sticks, neck straps, etc. If you need any help acquiring supplies, please let Ms. Loperena know

  6. Materials Needed • Music Binder – Needs to be a 3-ring binder (clear page covers not necessary). • Concert Attire – Long black pants or floor length black skirts, long sleeved white button-up shirt, and black shoes. (Cummerbunds and bow ties will be provided.) If you need any help acquiring supplies, please let Ms. Loperena know.

  7. Materials - Optional • Tuner (available on SmartMusic) • Metronome (some are combo with a tuner – also available on SmartMusic) • Hand Cart for heavy instruments: example available at target.com • Extra books of “fun music” for use at home: available at music stores or jwpepper.com

  8. Finale SmartMusic SmartMusic is an exciting, interactive, game-like music coaching system that assures students never have to practice alone! It is able to hear what your student is playing and provide instant feedback and practice guidance. It may be used to fulfill the practice log requirement.

Diegueno Music Boosters • The Boosters (like the PTSA) are a parent group that works to enhance the music program through funding, volunteerism, and administrative help. • Anyone can join by making a donation (of any size) and may attend meetings held on the Third Thursday of each month in the band room.
