  8. Positive Behavior Supports • Our vision upholds student achievement and good character. We are a Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) school and strongly believe in creating an environment that promotes and models the FIVE KEYS TO SUCCESS.

  10. Harassment/Bullying • “A person is bullied when he/she is exposed, repeatedly and over time to negative actions on the part of one or more persons.” • Verbal, Written, Physical, and/or Electronic • No tolerance! Please talk to your child about following our PBS KEYS TO SUCCESS!!!

  11. Dress Code • Please consider this when shopping for school clothes. • The “finger rule” for shorts and skirts • Repeated violations will be considered insubordination.

  12. Advisory • Our Advisory Program is designed to help students develop awareness of self, others, and the community through examination of a wide variety of topics that reach beyond the typical academic curriculum. The topics explored in advisory may include, but are not limited to, responsibility, respect, caring, fairness, trustworthiness, team building, goal setting, portfolio development, organization, study skills, community service, peer relationships, communication, and activities related to school pride.

  13. Teaming • 5-person teams • Advisory and 8 periods • Selectives for 9 weeks: Health, Modern Language, Communications, and Speech & Drama • PE and Computers every other day • Optional: Band and Chorus

  14. Registration: Feb.23–March 1 • 3 steps to registering: • 1) Paper form • (WMS=purple; SMS=gold) • 2) Electronic Registration • http://ps.waukee.k12.ia.us/public/ • http://www.waukee.k12.ia.us • 3) Turn form into elementary office

  15. Advanced Classes • Language Arts • Mathematics (Course 2) Students must meet specific requirements to enroll in these classes. Criteria includes: • ITBS results • NWEA MAP results • Teacher Recommendation

  16. Power School • You will be able to monitor your child’s progress via Power School. It is available to you once you have been provided with a username and password. • You will be able to check your child’s progress in each class. This is done electronically, and teachers will usually provide updated grade information once per week. The information you will see is as current as when the teacher puts it in the program folder. • You can monitor grades, attendance, and the lunch account. You will have an email link available through Power School. It is a great tool for you to stay connected with your child’s progress.
