  1. Welcome to Parent Night! Ms. Moore 2014 - 2015

Whole Brain Teaching • Is a research based system that utilizes all areas of the brain, keeps children engaged throughout their lessons, and helps them retain much more information than the standard lecture-discussion model. • Delivers information in short “chunks” • Students then teach each other what they have learned. • Find more information on our classroom webpage, under Symbaloo: Online Classroom Resources.

  3. Class Dojo • Is an online classroom management tool. • Students are awarded positive and negative points based on their behavior. • Parents and Students have a code to login at home and see the points from the day. • Students will be able to edit their avatars and see comments from the teacher about their behavior. Positive PointsNegative Points 1-5 color one square 1-3 walk 5 minutes at recess 6-15 color two squares 4-5 extra homework (and laps) 15 and up = prize more that 5 = note home and behavior reflection

  4. Bug Book • Homework binder that goes home every night. • Contains agenda • Pouch for money and notes to school • Homework • Reading log • Classwork (keep at home) • Graded work (sign paper and return work to school) • Make sure to sign agendas nightly!

  5. Homework • Students will have 15 minutes of reading every night. (Record on Reading Log sheet!) • Students will have to practice spelling words every night. (Check website for ways to practice.) • Students will have a math sheet every Wednesday. • When we begin learning we will ask that you practice these facts with your child. (Check website for ways to practice.)

  6. Graded Work and Class Work • Graded work will be sent home on Mondays. • This there is a form in the Bug Book that you will sign saying you have seen the work. • Then return the work to school • Class work is work that will be sent home on Fridays, that you can keep at home.

  7. Water and Snack • We have snack everyday about 9:40. Please send a snack with your child! • They can have water on their desk throughout the day. (no juice)

Giving Tree • Thank you for the supplies that have already been donated to the class during the first week!!! • There is a sheet on the back table with items that we might need for the classroom. If you are willing to donate to the classroom, you can check there, or donate anything else you think we might need. • Check the website: under the Newsletter section for anything else our class may need throughout the year.
