  3. What is meaningful & learning? Meaningful: To have purpose. Learning: “the activity or process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something” (http://merriam.webster.com)

  4. Meaningful learning with technology Reference: Meaningful Learning with Technology by Jane L. Howland, David Jonassen, and Rose M. Marra. Chapter One. Five Characteristics of Meaningful Learning (1) Active (2) Constructive (3) Intentional(4) Authentic(5) Cooperative Howland, et. al (2012) describe these characteristics as “interrelated, interactive, and interdependent” (p. 5). Howland et. al also refers to learning with technology and not learning “from” technology. (p 5)

(p.205) Ten Attributes of Authentic learning activitiesAuthentic activities: • Have real-world relevance. • Ill defined. • Compromise complex tasks. • Provides opportunities for students to review tasks from different perspectives, • Provide collaboration opportunities. • Provides time for reflection. • Can be span different subject areas. • Related to assessment. • Create “polished products valuable in their own right”. • Allows for “competing solutions and diversity of outcomes”.
