Different Types of Conjoined Twins • Thoraco-omphalopagus - fusion of lower chest • Parasitic-one twin smaller, less developed, and dependant on the other twin • Craniopagus- fused at the skull with different bodies • Ischiopagus- lower half of both bodies are fused together • Parapagus-fused next to each other sharing one pelvis

  4. Krista and Tatiana Hogan • 4-year old craniopagus conjoined twins • Share a thalamic bridge: able to feel sensations experienced by the other • physiological problems • The blood supply to the brains comes primarily from one heart • There is one primary kidney • They are legally blind in one

Chang and Eng Bunker • Born on May 11, 1811 in Siam • Conjoined by a piece of cartilage at the sternum and their livers were fused together but work independently • With today’s science, they would have been easily separated but at the time, the operation would not have been as safe or successful • Became the basis of “Siamese Twins”
