SEP Data Analysis and Data Products for EMMREM

This research paper discusses time-intensity profiles of protons during solar storms and the associations with flare/CME properties. It also explores the longitudinal distribution of large gradual SEPs and presents multi-spacecraft observations. The paper further highlights the importance of characterizing the azimuthal distribution of SEPs using STEREO and mentions additional datasets for analysis. The goal is to provide event lists, time-histories, energy spectra, peak intensities, and radial/longitudinal distributions for inputs into the module. The paper also addresses validation using MSL/RAD and LRO/CRaTER only flares.

  10. only flares Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) Old picture - up to 1990s’ • First discovered - Forbush 1946 from ground based ion counters • Closely related to H flares - (Meyer 1956) • Kahler et al. (late 1970s and early 1980s) found strong correlation with CMEs • Cane et al. (1986) made association with 2 types of radio bursts Current picture - two classes

  11. SEPs: Big Questions • Where? • At CME-shocks or in flares • Source material? • Ambient corona, solar wind, or other • Mechanisms? • Reconnection or CME-shock acceleration • Transport to Earth? • Scattering, Turbulence, fluctuations
