  8. LESSON PLAN • The origins of philosophy • Brainstorming • What’s the meaning of the word “Philosophy”? (help using Italian words such as cinofilo, idrofilo,etc) • Do you know where philosophy was born and when? • Do you know the names of any ancient philosophers? • What’s the aim of philosophy ? • Write their answers on the board • Presentation • Explain difficult words which are present in the presentation. Try to elicit the meaning from the pupils, give translation only if needed • Give each of them a photocopy of the comprehension exercise. Explain them what they are expected to do. Ask a pupil to read the sentences for the class and be sure that each pupil understands them.

  9. LESSON PLAN Show power-point presentation up to Gorgias -While you are reading, be sure that e verybody understands you, give right pronunciation and intonation. Take your time, do not be fast. -Correct the true -false exercise and show again the presentation giving deeper explanation. -Show the video “the power of words”. Comment the video with them. (What was written the first time? What did the woman write ? Did people react to the second sentence in a different way? Why?) -Start with the question: “ Where do you see the use of rhetoric nowadays?” Write the answers on the board then show the slide you have prepared - Ask them examples of politicians and the meanings their slogans want to convey (guide them towards the ones you have prepared and be sure that everyone understands them) -Show Chanel picture and make them work on the second exercise (in pairs). Let them say their answers. -Explain who Don Milani was and his task, then ask one of them to read the sentence aloud , be sure that everybody understands. Explain what Don Milani meant with this sentence. Then ask them to write their opinion about the importance of education. Let them read, Summarize shortly and thank the audience for their attention.
