3. Main DV: Level of Sexual Activity • Sexual behavior includes any act of sexual gratification involving the touching, directly or through clothing of the sex organs, or buttocks, or anus of a person. • Specific indicators include: partner genital stimulation, vaginal, anal, and oral sex. • Operationalized through an index consisting of Yes/No questions about engagement in specific sexual acts.

Hypotheses Explanatory Questions: • How does a student’s region of origin affect his/her level of sexual activity? • How does a student’s religion affect his/her level of sexual activity? • How does a college student's gender affect their participation in sexual activities? • How does the age of a student’s first sexual encounter correlate with his/her level of sexual activity? • Does the consensuality of a student’s first sexual encounter affect his/her level of sexual activity?

Hypotheses • People originating from the Northeast and West of the United States will have a higher degree of sexual permissiveness than those of the South and Midwest. • College students who adhere to religious beliefs will have a lower level of sexual activity than those who do not. • Males will have a higher level of sexual activity than females. • Women who report having their first sexual encounter at the age of 14 or younger will have a higher level of sexual activity than those who had their first sexual partner after the age of 17. • Female students whose first sexual encounter was non-consensual will have a higher level of sexual activity than those whose first sexual encounter was consensual.

9. Hypothesis 4:Women who report having their first sexual encounter at the age of 14 or younger will have a higher level of sexual activity than those who had their first sexual partner after the age of 17. Chart 4 shows a slight negative correlation between level of sexual activity and age of first sexual intercourse for females. The older a female is at the age of her first intercourse, the lower her level of sexual activity is, according to the index. The correlation is highly significant. N=163 Pearson Correlation = -.268 (sig. = .003)

10. Just to be thorough, here is the same chart for males. Chart 4 shows a slight negative correlation between level of sexual activity and age of first sexual intercourse for males. The older the respondent is at the age of first intercourse, the lower his level of sexual activity is, according to the index. This correlation is not statistically significant due to reduced sample size. N=103 Pearson Correlation = -.242 (sig. = .014)

11. Hypothesis 5:Female students whose first sexual encounter was non-consensual will have a higher level of sexual activity than those whose first sexual encounter was consensual. Chart 12 shows a correlation between consensuality of a female respondent’s first sexual encounter and their level of sexual activity. If a female respondent’s first sexual encounter was not consensual, they are more likely to have a higher level of sexual activity. This correlation is not significant, this is likely due to the relatively small sample size of 163 people. N=163 F-Statistic = 1.244 (sig. = .291)
