  1. Ms. Routledge’s Class Newsletter October 4th, 2013 Words Their Way We are beginning our new spelling program this next week. It is called Words Their Way. This program focuses student learning on a more hands on word study approach. Studentswill learn spelling patterns, syllable structures, and spelling-meaning connections to the English orthography. Learning spelling in this manner will help students with their reading and writing skills as well as becoming better spellers. Students will no longer cram for a Friday spelling test. Instead they will work on sorting words and categorizing them as they learn their unique spelling structures. Rotary Club Visit The Joplin Rotary Club visited our classroom today. They stopped by to give each of our 3rd grade students a dictionary. The students were extremely excited to receive their very own dictionary. The dictionary has their name inside. They may keep this dictionaries here at school or take them home. Math Facts We are really upping our focus on math fact fluency. Students need to be practicing their addition and subtraction facts. Being fluent at basic facts will help students as the difficulty of math increases this year. Up Coming Dates 10/8 McTeacher Night 10/10 Fundraiser Delivery 10/16-17 Parent Teacher Conferences
