  2. What is service learning? • Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Through service-learning, young people use what they learn in the classroom to solve real-life problems. • Service-learning can be applied in a wide variety of settings, including schools, universities, and community-based and faith-based organizations. It can involve a group of students, a classroom or an entire school. Students build character and become active participants as they work with others in their school and community to create service projects in areas such as education, public safety, and the environment. • Community members, students, and educators everywhere are discovering that service-learning offers all its participants a chance to take part in the active education of youth while simultaneously addressing the concerns, needs, and hopes of communities. http://www.servicelearning.org/what-is-service-learning

  3. About the Blazer Raiser -The Blazer Raiser is a fundraiser for the VSU tennis team. -People can bid money on the players during an auction and “buy” them for a mixed doubles match. -The next day, everybody plays a mixed double with his/ her player in the tournament of the Blazer Raiser.

  4. What happened… -This year’s auction took place on Friday, 22nd of April. - On Saturday, 23rd of April we had the Blazer Raiser tournament, and it was so much fun! - My partner, Hamilton Tillman, and I enjoyed the time on the courts, although we did not make it to the finals.

  5. Benefits -The Blazer Raiser was a nice experience. -I got to know many people and had a lot of fun. -It was the first time I participated on the Blazer Raiser, and I really enjoyed raising money for the Blazer Tennis Team. -I hope that in the future more and more people get interested in us and would like to support us – with money for equipment as well as on the courts.
