  3. S- Specific and Strategic • Specific relates to clarity. • Strategic relates to alignment with our mission and vision. • What are you going to do? • Why do you want to do it? • How are your going to do it?

BPS Mission & Vision Statement Mission Statement: • "The community of Bearfield Primary recognizes students enter school with different backgrounds and experiences.  It is our belief that all children will be successful when their level of development is challenged. By holding high expectations for parents, students, educators and community, and using a no-fault approach, we believe we will lead every child to becoming a life long learner and a productive member of society.” Vision Statement: • “Hand in Hand . . . Together we will make a DIFFERENCE!”

  5. Which statement has more clarity? • 1. We will help all kids learn. • 2. We will increase the Reading Comprehensive state test score.

  6. M-Measurable • In most cases measurable means quantifiable. • Which statement is quantified? • 1. We will increase the Reading Comprehensive state test scores. • 2. We will increase the Reading Comprehensive test scores by 35%.

  7. A-Attainable • Can be reached. • People must believe based on past data and current capabilities that success is realistic. Know your strengths and how to use them to best advantage.

  8. Which statement do you believe is attainable within one year? • 1. 100% of the 3rd grade students will score a 4 on the Reading Comprehensive state test by the end of the school year. • 2. 75% of our 3rd grade students will score a 3 or 4 on the Reading Comprehensive state test by the end of the school year.

  9. R-Results-Oriented • Focus on the outcome, not the process for getting there. • Refers to the desired end result, versus inputs to the process. • Example: Our 3rd Graders will increase their average score by 40% as measured by the Reading Comprehensive state test.

  10. T-Time-Bound • When will the goal be accomplished? Example: • 75% of our 3rd grade students will score a 3 or 4 on the Reading Comprehensive state test by the end of 2011-2012 school year.
