  1. Centennial Middle SchoolCurriculum Night Ms. Noriega Algebra

  2. About Me • My name is Beth Noriega and I have been teaching for 13 years. I went to Northern Arizona University and have a degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School Math and SEI endorsement. I am a highly qualified teacher in the state of Arizona. I taught at a charter school in Phoenix for two years, and then moved to the Gilbert Public School district and spent 6 years there. This is my sixth year at Centennial. I have five children, ages 12, 10, 6, 4 years and 10 months old. I look forward to a very exciting year.

  3. Homework Policy • Your student will have homework almost every night. I try not to give more than an hour a night, but sometimes it may happen. If it is consistently happening, please e-mail me so we can work something out. I do understand that these kids have families and activities outside of school, and I don’t want to take away from that. However, homework is an important opportunity for students to practice what they have been taught. If a student does not turn in their homework, they can turn it in the next day for half credit and after that it is a “0,” but they are still expected to complete the assignment.

  4. Grading Homework Homework will be graded 2 days after it is assigned Homework assigned on:Will be checked for completion on:Will be graded on: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Wednesday Thursday Friday Thursday Friday Monday Friday Monday Tuesday The expectation is that the student will start their homework on the day it is assigned so they are prepared with questions on the next day. The homework will be graded the following day. If I find that students are not utilizing the opportunity to ask questions or are not starting their homework on the day it is assigned, the policy will change and homework will be graded the day after it is assigned. **There are two exceptions to this policy: The homework for the last section covered before the test will be graded the next day AND any chapter test review homework assigned will be graded the next day.

  5. Tests/Quizzes • Tests will be given every two to three weeks with a quiz in between. It is important that your student study for these tests as they are a very large part of their grade. • Students will also be taking a mid-term exam in December and a final exam in May.

  6. Grading • Homework – 30% • Tests/Quizzes - 70% Grading Scale: 90%-100% A 80%-89% B 70%-79% C 60%-69% D 59% and below F Please make sure you are checking parent portal/student vue on a regular basis to keep up on your student’s progress. This is a high school credit course, which means if your student receives a passing grade and passes the mid-term and final, they will receive high school credit.

  7. Extra Point Opportunities • If a student has no missing assignments, they will be eligible for extra credit. Even if they received a “0” for the assignment because it was not turned in on time, they will have the opportunity to do an extra credit assignment. The students will all have the opportunity to earn extra points by doing test corrections. They will only be able to do corrections on one test/quiz per quarter. After they have taken a test or quiz and it has been handed back, they have the opportunity to do corrections if they did poorly on that test or quiz. They can correct any of the problems they missed and get half of the points back. They must remember that they can only do this one time per quarter.

  8. Tutoring Schedule • To be determined.
