  2. History The Mausoleum of Augustus is located in the Campus Martius(Plain of Mars) in Rome. It was built in 28 BC on the orders of the Emperor Augustus. This building was the first building constructed in Augustus’ long and illustrious reign, which began at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. The Mausoleum was created as a final resting place for the imperial family, indeed, it held the bodies and ashes of his entire dynasty. A reconstruction of the complete Mausoleum.

  3. Appearance • The Mausoleum of Augustus was a magna (large) building. It was circular with a conical roof that had cypress trees planted on its slopes. At the apex of the roof stood a granditer(grand) statue of Augustus. The pathway into the center was flanked by two pink granite obelisks.
