Hydropower Training Network p.2/10 Vietnam has high Hydropower potentials - More than 2200 rivers & streams - Total hydropower resource: 300 bil. kWh - Total identified potential: 82-100 bil. kWh, whereas i) Large and medium hydropower ?10MW: 90-93% ii) Small & micro hydropower 5kW ?10MW: 7-10% Installed capacity to date - Large and medium hydropower: 4,078 MW - Small & micro hydropower: approx. 41 MW Hydropower Potentials & Priorities

Hydropower Training Network p.5/10 New Hydropower Development Plan 2005-2010 - Large and medium hydropower: 6,480 MW - Small & micro hydropower: approx. 50 MW (2005) and 100 MW (2010) Hydropower Priorities - Hydropower is the Clean Energy Development - Small & micro hydropower: contribute to residential lighting & agricultural demand, handicraft activities, and social development,... in remote areas - Multi-owner corporations (IPP, private and state-owned) are encouraged to invest in medium & small hydropower.
