  4. Learning Objectives

  5. Learning Objectives

  6. Training Agenda – Day 1

  7. Training Agenda – Day 2

  8. Value of ISO 50001: A Systematic Approach-Proven Results • ISO 50001 is an Energy Continuous Improvement platform (similar to Kaizen/6 Sigma) • Culture. Change management process engaging facility/plant personnel with management/leadership • Practice. Based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle promotes continuous improvement • Key Components • Commitment. Leadership committed and empowering energy management • Data. Collection and analysis of energy performance in facility and large energy users • Value. Incorporating energy decisions into overall operations Companies adopting ISO 50001 • 3M • Aflac • American Axle & Manufacturing • BAE Systems • BMW • Bosch Rexroth • Bridgestone • Cargill • Chrysler • Coca-Cola • Cummins • Curtiss-Wright EMD • Detroit Diesel • Google • HARBEC Inc. • Hilton Worldwide • IBM • Intertape Polymer Group • Land O’Lakes • Johnson Controls • Mack Trucks • Marriott International, Inc. • MedImmune • NewGold • Nissan North America • Samsung • Schneider Electric • Titan America • Volkswagen • Volvo

  9. Value of 50001 Ready CERTIFY VERIFY SELF ATTEST Complete 25 steps in Navigator Self-attest to completion Report energy performance ANAB-accredited audit ISO 50001 certification 3rd party SEP Performance Verification audit Time required to complete: 12+ months Time required to complete: 12+ months Time required to complete: flexible 50001 Ready is part of a Pathway toward ISO 50001 Certification and (if desired) Validated Energy Savings in SEP

  10. Value of 50001 Ready 50001 Ready is: • Recognition for self-attesting to implementation of an EnMS based on the structure of ISO 50001 • Process with no certification requirement from third parties • Readily Adaptable software tools, designed to be adopted by implementers • Suite of resources to support continuous improvement in institutional, commercial and industrial facilities • Ability to support ‘enterprise’ or multi-facility adoption

  11. 50001 Ready Recognition Three Steps to Becoming 50001 Ready Use the 50001 Ready Navigator Online Tool • The Navigator walks you through the process of implementing an energy management system and prepares you to be 50001 Ready. Adopt Valid Tool to Present Energy Performance • DOE offers the EnPI Lite calculator for 50001 Ready. • EPA’s Portfolio Manager can also be used • Other tools can be approved by DOE STEP 1 Start Implementation of ISO 50001 principles DOE recognizes 50001 Ready achievement STEP 2 Analysis of energy reductions STEP 3 File for 50001 Ready recognition Submit information to DOE for Review • Self-attestation of completion of Navigator, executed by team leader and executive • Submit energy performance data

  12. Tools: 50001 Ready Navigator • Online tool, with simple, step-by-step approach to ISO 50001 implementation • 25 tasks divided into 4 sections • Ability to assign tasks to team members • Extensive guidance and examples available in each module https://navigator.lbl.gov

  13. Crosswalk of 50001 Ready Tasks System Management Documentation and Records Communications Training Procurement Internal Audit Calculate Energy Savings Management Review Energy Review Data Collection Data Analysis Performance Indicators (EnPIs) Significant Energy Uses (SEUs) Relevant Variables Baselines, Objectives and Targets Improvement Opportunities Improvement Projects Planning Scope and Boundaries Energy Policy Management Commitment Energy Team Legal Requirements Continual Improvement Monitoring Measurement Operational Controls Corrective Actions Energy Consideration in Design Navigator Phases 50001 Ready Tasks

  14. Tools: Enterprise Level Tracking Track facility-level performance across different locations.

  15. Tools: DOE Energy Footprint Tool Gather Data Easily track and analyze: • Energy consumptionElectricity, natural gas, etc. • Relevant variablesProduction levels, degree days, operating hours, occupancy rates, etc. • Energy Usesi.e., Application of energy • Calculates energy-related greenhouse gas emissions • Easily exports to DOE EnPI Tool https://www.energy.gov/eere/amo/downloads/energy-footprint-tool

  16. Tools: Energy Performance Indicator Lite (EnPI Lite) EnPI Lite: Navigator’s companion online tool for facility-level energy performance • Enter or upload energy use data and account for mitigating factors (e.g., production levels, occupancy changes, weather) • Top-down regression analysis calculates energy change from baseline year • Accepts input from DOE Energy Footprint tool and ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager • The EnPI Lite Output file is one option for reporting energy performance for DOE recognition https://enpilite.lbl.gov/

  17. Prepare for the Training • Explore50001 Ready Navigator https://navigator.lbl.gov Create your account before class How to manage your Navigator account: • Decide who will be the overall project administrator • That person should create an account and a password. • That person should also create a “project” in Navigator and add the other team members • Each member should create their own account and password (from the invitation received) prior to the training

  18. Prepare for the Training • Explore the Energy Footprint Tool • Energy Footprint Tool • (https://www.energy.gov/eere/amo/downloads/energy-footprint-tool) • Sample data is available • Energy Footprint Tool Guide (pdf) • Explanations and a quick reference guide for the Energy Footprint Tool • Energy Footprint Tool Overview Video Tutorial (YouTube https://youtu.be/JxJJobiVBRs) • A guided walk-through of the Energy Footprint Tool

  19. Prepare for the Training 3. Info / data to bring to the training class for your site (if applicable and available): • Aerial view of plant site from Google Maps • Energy Policy, and any specific goals • Energy source data: • Types • Monthly utility bills • Internal metering data • Relevant variable data: • Production data • Cooling or Heating Degree Days (CDD or HDD) • Others. Bring your laptop!

  20. Prepare for Training 4. Explore EnPI Lite Tool • EnPI Lite / Energy Performance Calculator (https://enpilite.lbl.gov/)
