  3. General Ad Guidelines • All click through URLs must open into a new browser window. • All adverts must be supplied with Alt text, (short and to the point abridged text of advert). Alt text is required for accessibility* purposes. • Colour contrast and fonts need to show clearly in standard screen sizes as well as enlarged screen sizes for accessibility* purposes. • 2 working day lead time for non rich media adverts (gif/jpeg). • Each advertisement will be treated separately and may have to be approved by the Site Manager or FT editorial to ensure it has no detrimental effect on our site or user experience. FT.com reserve the right to remove the advertisement from the site should it have any detrimental effect. • Rich Media (specific details) • 5 working day lead time for rich media adverts including flash. • Out of banner adverts and other intrusive Rich Media formats will not be served on the FT.com homepage or to FT.com Subscribers. • Gif back up images must be supplied for all Rich Media campaigns. General Ad Guidelines • Rich Media (specific details) continued • Any audio content is required to be set to off at the start of the advertisement, and user intervention is required to set the audio to on. • Audio volume level should also be set to low once the user has chosen to turn the sound on. • Initial download on streaming/polite download adverts is 45k. A further 55k may be down loaded post initial download. • FT accepts rich media adverts from the following Rich Media companies. Tangozebra, Eyeblaster, Pointroll, Unicast, Eyewonder, Flashtalking. • Flash Requirements • Flash advertisements should be no larger than 15k initial download (for banners) in weight. Post-loading stream can be no larger then 45k. • All Flash SWF files must contain a name or description to work as Alt text (short and to the point abridged text of advert). Alt text is required for accessibility* purposes. • Please ensure wmode=opaque • FT can count clicks if the code is changed as follows as per the following slide. Continued on next slide

General Ad Guidelines • Flash Requirements- Continued • FT provides the sniffer code for Flash advertising. • Users should never be re-directed to an 'upgrade' page, or be shown an 'upgrade your version of Flash' advertisement. • Movie clips are interchangeable components for buttons in Flash. Please make sure a button is used. • Submit SWF file, back up Gif file and Click through URL toonlineads@ft.com • See next slide for screenshot of flash set up.

Flash Set up Follow the steps below to amend the ad so that it can be tracked: 1) Please create an "invisible button" on the layer below the actionscript on the main timeline. 2) Please use the following actionscript on the "Invisible button" within the Flash : on (release){ getURL(clickTag,"_blank"); } this code MUST be used for the BUTTON that clicks to the link. 2) Please can the creative be published in Flash Player 8, Actionscript version 2.0. We are unable to use creatives published in a version higher than the above.

General Ad Guidelines • *Accessibility • FT.com adheres to Accessibility guidelines set by the RNIB to allow users with Screen readers greater access to the FT.com website and it’s content. • Enlarging Screen size- Colour Contrast should be tested to ensure quality remains when screen sizes are enlarged. Fonts on adverts should also be tested

Animation- 3 loops max Formats- gif/ jpeg, rich media including flash. Click or roll to expand adverts. Maximum expansion is 600x 850, Expanding left page only.

  10. Leaderboard Leaderboard Ad Size- 728x90pixels (Ad position is flexible to accept either banner or Leaderboard.) Weight- 30 KB maximum. Animation- 3 loops max Format-gif, jpeg, rich media including flash. Placement- This ad position is on top of every page on FT.com. This advert is not shown to subscribers on the FT.com Homepage. Note: Roll over / click to expandable banners are accepted. Maximum expansion is 728x300, expand down the page only.

  11. Banner Size- 468x60 pixels (Ad position is flexible to accept either banner or Leaderboard.) Weight- 30 KB maximum. Animation- 3 loops max Format-gif, jpeg, rich media including flash. Placement- This ad position is on top of every page on FT.com. This advert is not shown to subscribers on the FT.com Homepage. Note: Roll over / click to expandable banners are accepted. Maximum expansion is 468x300, Expanding down-page only.

  12. Half Page MPU Size- 300x600. Weight- 30 KB max. Animation- 3 loops max Formats- gif/ jpeg, rich media including flash. Click or roll to expand adverts. Maximum expansion is 600x 600, Expanding left page only.

Rich Media Technology/Formats Accepted on FT.com • Real time streamed adverts accepted on a case by case basis. • Javascript- Code for Adverts allowing greater interactivity than HTML • DHTML- Code for Adverts allowing Dynamic style advertising (e.g. out of banner) • Superstitials- Large file size pop up style ads, which load politely in the background. On completion of download advert plays.

Rich Media Technology/Formats Accepted on FT.com • Surround Sessions- Creatives which follow the user around the site for the duration of one browser session. • One Surround Session Per target group at any one time. • One Surround Session per user, per day. • Surround sessions will be capped to a maximum of 3 follow adverts. • Remote Serving- Adverts hosted on a third party server. • The Production team will add a Timestamp to the end of the third party URL’s. As we are currently using the DoubleclickAdServer 4.1 solution, the timestamp code required is “ord=$GMT$”. (i.e.http://www.mysite.com/image/adid=142&ord=$gmt$ and “http://www.mysite.com/click/adid=142&ord=$gmt$”). • Remote served adverts are subject to usual performance (loading) and file size restrictions. FT.com reserve the right to remove the image if the client/agencies ad servers go down or are proved to be running slowly, or the creative is amended to fall outside current FT guidelines

Expandable- FT.com • Expandable Advertising- Adverts which become bigger than the original ad size. • Expand must be user initiated by mouse over or click, expanded ad should automatically close on mouse off. • Expanding adverts may only remain open if a user is actively completing a data capture form. In this case a clear click to close button is required. • Expand part of adverts may only cover the content well. • Banner/Leaderboard- Expand down over content well • Sky/Wide Sky- Expand right over content well, must stop before Left hand navigation. • MPU Box/Sky- Expand up, left (must stop before LHN) and down the page. • MPU Box- Expand up, left (must stop before LHN) and down the page • FT is unable to create out of expandable adverts from gif/flash files submitted. Complete advert code must be supplied to the FT to be run in one ad call. Code must contain all elements (images, click throughs, commands to expand the advert over the page on mouse over or click, commands to close the advert on mouse over or click, expand tracking etc). • FT recommends these ads should be supplied by a 3rd party rich media vendor. • See next slide for rich media vendor examples.

Overlayz/Out of Banner/Floating Ads- FT.com • Out of Banner Advertising- Advertising which doesn’t appear within a designated ad slot. • May not run for longer than 7 seconds. • Max 5 ads of this format will run at any one time to the same target. • Each advert must only be seen once per day per user (Cookie must be set to expire after 24 hours). • Ad must have a clear ‘X’ click to close visible at all times. • Ads are restricted to play over the content well space only. Therefore approx max of 400x400 pixels. • FT is unable to create out of banner/overlayz adverts from gif/flash files submitted. Complete advert code must be supplied to the FT to be run in one ad call. Code must contain all elements (images, click throughs, commands to call it over the page, commands to close the advert etc). • FT recommends these ads should be supplied by a 3rd party rich media vendor. • See next slide for rich media vendor examples.

Transitional/Full Page Adverts- FT.com • Transitional- Full page TV commercial style advert appearing between page links. • Advert may play for max of 7 seconds • Click to close/Skip this advert option must always be clearly available. • FT is unable to create out of transitional/full page adverts from gif/flash files submitted. Complete advert code must be supplied to the FT to be run in one ad call.   25. Video Adverts- FT.com • Video: Adverts containing video/film footage. • Video adverts should not play for longer than 30 seconds and should only play once. Sound must be user initiated. • Users should never be prompted to download a compatible video player plug-in. • Total ad size for video ads including volume/play controls may not exceed the standard ad slot size. This must be taken into consideration when building video adverts. Initial download of streamed video adverts must not exceed 45k. Post initial download a further 55k can be downloaded. • FT is unable to stream or host video adverts.
