  1. Your Twisted Digestive System By Siri and Rochelle

  2. Our Introduction Your Digestive System is one of the major systems in your body. It takes your food, breaks it down, makes energy and transports it to the rest of the body. Your Digestive System is very important.

  3. How it works Your Digestive System is a thirty foot long tube. It begins in the mouth where the teeth and tongue break up the food as it gets ready to go to the esophagus, then on to the stomach.

  4. More About How it Works Acid is mixed with the food in the stomach which then turns into paste.

  5. Even More About How it Works The paste goes into the small intestine a little at a time. The small intestine is 20-feet long. In the beginning of the small intestine the food is broken down even farther until it fits through the small intestine. The large intestine makes your solid waste.

  6. How to Eat Right to Help Your Digestive System You shouldn’t eat fats as often as rice or bread. You need to eat at least 3 servings of fruits and veggies a day.

  7. Did You Know? • Food stays in your esophagus 2-3 seconds. • Food in large intestine can stay for 10 hours or up to several days. • If you chop of a piece of your liver it will grow itself back.

  8. Did You Know? • Your food spends 1-6 hours in your small intestine. • Food stays in your stomach for 4 hours!
