  6. Types of Clauses Independent Clause Dependent Clause (IC) (DC) complete sentence incomplete sentence (fragment) What make a sentence complete? Subject Verb Complete thought/idea

  8. Independent Clause (IC)= Complete sentence The sentence contains a S + V + Complete thought/idea Classes are conducted every Saturday throughout the semester. Dependent Clause (DC)= Incomplete sentence The sentence contains a S + V but the thought/idea is incomplete When they opened the front door.

  9. Simple Sentences S = S + V Tinacries. S = S + S + V Tina and Samcry. S = S + V + V Tina kissed and hugged me. S = S + S + V + V Tina and Sam kissed and hugged me. Look at the above simple sentences. Are they complete? So, we can also call them as Independent Clauses (IC).
