  1. UW MEN’S GymnasticsRecruiting Building On Our Legacy of Excellence

  2. Defining a Process • Define Success • Target and Customize message • General Strategies and Targeted Tactics • Understand and communicate our unique benefits and features • Understand perceived objections and convert them to positives • Identify communication methods that optimize message to each target for strategies and tactics • Commit to a 3-5 year plan

  3. Define Recruiting Success • Numbers • Diversity • Geography • Specialty • Quality • Nationally competitive • ???

  4. Message Targets

  5. Customized Message • Parents • What do parents who support their sons competing past JO look for? • Coaches • What are Coaches wanting to see in order to encourage an athlete to continue past JO • Athletes • What are athletes looking for/hoping for? • Our Challenge: How to answer those wants and needs effectively?

  6. Strategies and Tactics • General Strategies • Longer term results • Building brand awareness • Image advertising • Public Relations • Program perception and recognition nationally • Targeted Tactics • Foreseeable results • Focus on specific • Athletes • Gyms • Geography • Overlaid on Strategies

  7. Foundation Principle

  8. Unique Benefits and Features • What do we have in common with “real” gymnastics programs • What are the opportunities or experiences that athletes can get here that they can’t get anywhere else? • Are there distinct advantages about coming to our program over other programs. • How do we tailor our communication about our B&F to appeal to each target group?

  9. Reframing Objections • What objections can we imagine each target group might have? • What are the common misperceptions of a “non-scholarship” program/our program specifically? • Is there a corresponding positive for those objections?

  10. Building a 3-5 Year Plan • What are the General Strategies that we are willing to commit to doing over the next 3-5 years? • What are the Specific Tactics that we are willing to commit to doing next year that we can build on over the next 3-5 years? • Are we willing to see this as an agricultural project?

  11. Recruiting success statement The WMGF recruiting efforts will be successful when we are consistently signing 4-6 new, high-quality athletes every year, ultimately resulting in a standing team of 24 gymnasts. We anticipate these athletes will come from throughout the nation (but especially Region II) as a result of JO Club Coaches preferentially endorsing our program to their athletes and parents. We believe that our recruiting efforts will position the UW within the Top10 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Programs in the country.
