  1. The Interactive Notebook A Student Guide to Making an Interactive Notebook for Social Studies

  2. Let’s Get Started! You will need a spiral notebook that is: • Single-subject • 70-count • College-ruled You must also have: • Glue sticks • Colored pencils

  3. Numbering • Each page in your notebook will be numbered, including the front and back of every page. • You have a 70-count notebook. How many pages will your notebook have once it has been completely numbered? 140 • Using a pencil, begin with the first page across from the inside cover, and number this page 1. • The back of page 1will become page 2, the page across from it 3 and so on. • Please place all page numbers in the upper corners of your notebook.

  4. Numbering Example Number carefully and without making any mistakes!

  5. Copy everything you see from this point on into your notebook exactly as it is shown! The next few pages will serve as samples pages.

  6. Copy the sample TABLE OF CONTENTS (TOC) shown below into your notebook:

  7. Information ABOUT THE AUTHOR will go on these pages of your notebook: Place a wallet-sized photo of yourself here.

  8. Copy the sample TITLE page shown below into your notebook:

  9. Copy the PREVIEW, PROCESSING & READINGNOTES sample pages shown below into your notebook. Even # pages on LEFT! • ODD # pages on RIGHT!

  10. Set up your Chapter IYT/REVIEWSthis way: • A HEADING must go on the RIGHT side.

  11. Set up your JOURNAL this way:

  12. Please refer to the Interactive Notebook Guidelines from this point on. Once you have signed your guidelines, cut them out and glue them into the BACK cover across from the LAST page.

  13. How will my IN be graded? • Each day your IN will be checked for completeness. Students will receive one of two stamps: • Gold Medal = completed on time • Partial Smiley Face = incomplete/not handed in • Forgot your work? I reward effort! If you copy down the answers during class, you can STILL get Partial Credit! • All notebooks should be turned to the appropriate page & placed at the FRONT of the Pod in the middle of desks one & two.

  14. Careful! • It is important to remember that your INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK (IN) will become your own, personal version of the textbook. • Feel free to be creative with your notebook; however, • You MAY NOT write in your IN wherever you want. • Do not write in your IN unless the Table of Contents (TOC) directs you to doso!

  15. CONGRATULATIONS! Your Interactive Notebook is now set up and ready to use. Please bring it to class EVERYDAY!
