  2. Objectives: • Analyze and draw conclusions about theme and genre and provide evidence from the text to support understanding. • Know how to use SAT vocabulary words in a sentence completion exercise. • Understand the code of Chivalry.

  3. Today’s Agenda: • Discuss journal • SAT Vocabulary sentence completion • Answer, what do I already know about knights? • Go over the code of Chivalry • Listen to song, “Holding Out for a Hero” • read pp. 14-16 and 98-101. Take Cornell Notes in correct Cornell Notes format

  4. SAT Vocab. Quiz Lesson 1 Part 1: • # 1 through 6; 8 through 10; 15-16. • Wed, Oct 12: A Day • Thurs, Oct 13: B Day • Matching quiz

  5. Chivalry: What is it??? • The ideal code of conduct expected of a knight.

  6. Characteristics: • Thou shalt believe in the Church and all of its teachings. • Though shalt defend the Church. • Thou shalt not recoil before thine enemy. • Though shalt make war against the infidel without mercy.

  7. Thou shat never lie and shalt remain faithful to thy pledged word • Though shalt be generous, and give largeness to everyone • Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good against injustice and evil.

  8. Duties of a knight: • To fear God and maintain His Church. • To serve the liege lord in valour and faith. • To protect the weak and defenseless. • To give succour to widows and orphans. • To live by honor and glory.

  9. To fight for the welfare of all. • To obey those placed in authority. • To guard the honor of fellow knights. • To always speak the truth. • To respect the honor of women. • Never to refuse a challenge from an equal. • Never to turn the back upon a foe.
