  2. Declarative Sentences • A declarative sentence expresses a statement. It always ends with a period. Australia is both a country and a continent.

  3. Interrogative Sentences • An interrogative sentence asks a question. It always ends with a question mark. Is Australia the smallest continent?

  4. Imperative Sentences • An imperative sentence tells or asks someone to do something. It usually ends with a period but may end with an exclamation point. Find Australia on this map of the world.

  5. Exclamatory Sentences • An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It always ends with an exclamation point. I’d love to visit Australia!

  6. Identifying Kinds of SentencesIdentify each sentence below by writing D for declarative, INT for interrogative, IMP for imperative, or E for exclamatory. Add the proper punctuation mark at the end of each sentence. • Australia is the home of some very unusual animals • Have you ever heard of the platypus • What a strange creature it is • Look for a picture of the platypus in an encyclopedia • Is the koala a native of Australia

  8. Using Different Kinds of Sentences Directions: Add the correct end punctuation to each of these sentences. Then rewrite the sentences according to the instructions in parentheses. You may have to add or delete words and change word order. Example: How strange those animals are! (Change to a declarative sentence.) Those animals are strange.
