  1. Greetings Greetings By pushing on the greetings menu, which would be a downloadable list, you could get a list that could be seasonally specific. These categories would be for the survivor who has certainly progressed. A list similar to the one illustrated could appear. We can incorporate as many greetings as the user or caregiver desires. We can include such things as Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Birthday,or Top of the morning to you. This slide also shows how we may adjust the controls for the individual After the category is selected, the speech screen will appear. The new screen shows a list of items that the user prefers to have for breakfast. By selecting bacon and eggs, the unit may respond, “ I would like two eggs over easy and crisp fried bacon. “ A coffee selection may get a response of “ I would like a cup of decaf coffee with cream and sweet and low. 4. Infra-red The infra-red component of the Communicator was specifically designed to address the issue of two survivors being able to communicate with one another, it is also designed to interact with the caregiver unit. The Communicator has been built with a module that incorporates a specific list of questions that would elicit a very definitive answer. This means that one unit could query another unit thru infra-red or blue tooth technology and cause the other unit to automatically respond. It also allows the caregiver unit to automatically change the stroke victims screen to address a specific question. This will be more fully explained on the caregiver slide. • What is your name • Where do you live • Where are you from • What did you do • 5. Where did you go to school • 6. Did you play sports • 7. Were you in the military • 8. Favorite TV shows • 9. Favorite activities • 10. Do you have children up O’Brien Survivor speak Survivor to Survivor A query of “what is your name” on one unit, audibly gives the users name on the other unit. A query of, “do you have children “ on one unit, could get a response on the other unit of, “I have a boy 18 and a girl 23.” This list will be proprietary and be developed by the pathologists and caregivers. All of the information will be loaded on the device by O’Brien Technologies. down slow Speaker Speaker Infrared

  5. Infrared The Caregiver Unit The caregiver unit was designed to alleviate the survivor from trying to figure out what screen to go to when asked a question by the caregiver. The care giver can select a question which they can ask and then when they push the selection on their caregiver unit, it will correspondingly change the survivors screen to where he can select the answer. An example would be if the caregiver were to select “what would you like for lunch”, the victims screen on his unit will switch to the lunch menu. !. What do you want for dinner. 2. What do you want for lunch. 3.What would you like to do today. 4. Where would you like to go. 5. What do you want to watch. 6. What would you like from the grocery store. 7. What would you like from the mall up O’Brien Survivor speak A query from the caregiver of what would you like from grocery store” would display a list of favorite items the survivors likes to eat or snack on. This could also be a list of medical questions developed by pathologists that would enact a screen on the survivor’s unit of responses that would help the pathologist or therapist in the survivors recovery process. All caregiver questions enact a specific survivor screen. down slow Speaker Speaker Infrared

  6. An overview of facts and issues facing families of stroke and brain injured individuals • The information available on the internet and from places such as The Center for Disease Control, the National Institute of Health, National Medical Statistics Agency and the Aphasia Center in New Jersey, all admit that an accurate compilation on statistics for brain trauma and stroke survivors does not exist. • It is also recognized that there is not a single source reference for the family of a stroke or brain injured survivor to obtain all of the information relevant to the injury and the ramifications of these types of injuries. This information is critical to the family and should be coupled with the information on the medical centers, pathologists, therapists and help organizations available to them in their area. • There is also an immediate need for the family to realize what the financial ramifications are and the resources that are available to them. There is a necessity to give explicit instructions as to how to navigate the maze and access the respective resources. It is also necessary to take them step by step through the process. It is also very helpful to the family to be able to interact with others that are either going through or have been through what the family is now facing. We all understand the need to know what is new or innovative that could be of help to the survivor. • These are just a few of the myriad of issues that the family and survivor of one of these injuries must endure. It is with your help that we shall provide some of the critical services and solutions that are so desperately needed to help improve the lives of these people whom have suffered such a catastrophic and life altering injury and to those family members and loved ones that will now become caregivers.

  7. The Internet Function of The O’Brien Communication System • The power of the hand held communication device, coupled with the power of the internet, makes for the most powerful communication system for speech impaired individuals in the world. This system has a provisional patent and truly has no equals. • The internet will be comprised of multiple functions that will all be directed at the families and survivors of stroke and brain trauma. The internet site will consist of a complete library on both types of injuries and include such categories and explanations of Global aphasia, Broca’s aphasia, Transcortal motor aphasia, Wernicke’s aphasia, Conduction aphasia, Transcortal sensory aphasia and Anomic aphasia. • There will also be a complete breakdown and an explanation of the different types of brain injuries and their severity. The site will include a list and information on local therapists, pathologists, medical facilities with programs to aid individual with their recovery and organizations that help relieve some of the financial burden. • There will also be a section on helping individuals through the Medicare, Medicaid and insurance processes.

  8. The Internet Function of The O’Brien Communication System • The site shall have a section that allows doctors, pathologists and therapists to publish articles and provide up to date information on what is currently going on and what is on the horizon that could aid the families or survivors. These articles will be cataloged by author, subject matter and date and stored in the library for instant access. • There will also be an online bulletin board were caregivers may post questions to therapists or other individuals who are going through the same experiences. • The site also allows the caregiver to request proprietary categories and lists that can be downloaded to the communication device within hours. The site will also include lists that may be downloaded to the device immediately.
