Daily Journal Question-of-the-Day – 80 points Intended to promote critical thinking & decision making, improve communication skills, and increase general knowledge - 10 points per day • Activity Worksheets – 10 points if fully completed • Documentation of activities that students complete during the unit’s individual activities • Unit Projects – 50 points fully completed • Culminating project reflecting completed activities. GOAL: • Make a 5 minute video that includes a • 30 second commercial advertisement. • ACTIVITIES: • Write a script that teaches me something. • Film raw footage & upload to computer. • Edit footage, insert commercial, add titles, credits, and a soundtrack. • Burn video to a CD Video Production

  6. GOAL: • Learn to control electrical current on a circuit board by working with various components. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn how electricity is generated. • Learn about simple electronic circuits. • Put together buzzers, lights, alarms, etc. • Learn how to solder a circuit board. Electricity & Electronics

GOAL: • Control a milling machine with math and learn the basics of programming language. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn about coordinate positioning. • Write a manual program using a new language. • Create a CAD drawing & computerized program code • Make a nametag & door plate sign. GOAL: • Learn forensic science techniques and equipment used to solve today’s crimes. • ACTIVITIES: • Identify fingerprints. • Perform hair & fiber analysis. • Analyze tire and tool marks. • Complete a CSI interactive in the toxicology (drugs/alcohol) & pathology (autopsy) labs. • Solve a (fictional) crime. GOAL: • Analyze and report on the quality of Keene’s drinking water supply. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn about why water is important. • Check pH levels. • Test for iron & copper levels. • Compare faucet water to bottled water to reservoir water. • Perform fecal coliform testing. Environmental Water Testing

GOAL: • Create personal custom graphics on paper and on fabric. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn about logos & letterheads. • Design, draw, and digitize logo artwork. • Create personal stationery & business cards. • Learn customizing fabric design software. • Create a custom sewn design project. Graphics & Monogramming

  11. GOAL: • Create a computerized, break-out video game. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn about the history of video games. • Complete a game tutorial. • Use new skills to create a personalized video game with players & scoring. Video Game Development

  12. GOAL: • Discover what keeps an airplane in the air. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn about the Bernoulli Principle. • Test geometric and vehicle objects. • Design, manufacture and test an airfoil wing. • Complete “learn to fly” lessons using the Flight Simulator software. Aerodynamics & Flight

GOAL: • Learn about building planning and design, including making scale models. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn about the planning of living spaces. • Use an interactive program to design a house for a client. • Draw a floor plan sketch of your house. • Design and construct a scaled model of your idea of the” ultimate bedroom”. Architecture

  14. GOAL: • Use tools and machines to manipulate lumber into a finished wood project. • ACTIVITIES: • Take critical measurements with a ruler to the closest 1/8inch. • Use simple hand tools and hand-held power tools. • Learn the band saw, scroll saw, drill press and sanding machines. Woodworking

  15. GOAL: • Experience the many ways to process plastic products and learn about recycling. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn where the raw material comes from. • Make chemical plastic. • Use a strip heater and vinyl dipping oven. • Use injection mold and vacuum forming machines. Plastics Manufacturing

GOAL: • Experiment with different types of light, what LASER means and its use as a communications tool. • ACTIVITIES: • Compare natural light with laser light. • Experiment with reflection & refraction. • Use diverging devices and filtering lenses. • Send sound through the laser with fiber optic cable. • Learn the many uses for lasers.   17. GOAL: • Program a Lego robot to perform 10 simple tasks. • ACTIVITIES: • Learn the many uses for robots. • Watch a FIRST Lego competition. • Build a Lego Robot using kit materials. • Learn the programming software. • Write your program code and download it to your robot. Lego Robotics

  19. 1. View the Modular Unit Presentation. 2. Review the list and note each unit has an assigned number. • Find your first choice title on the list and note its unit number. • Write your first choice unit number on the Choice #1 line. DO NOT write the unit title! • Repeat steps 2, 3, & 4 for your second choice. • Keep repeating this until you have 6 choices selected. You may NOTuse any number more than once! You MUST have a number on ALL 6 choice lines! Write your name, Tech. number, and class period on the lines provided.
