WHAT is VTAC & VCAA? • www.vtac.edu.au & www.vcaa.edu.au • VCAA (Vic Curriculum & Assessment Authority) manages VCE • VCAA gives VCE results to VTAC (Vic Tert Admissions Centre) • VTAC calculates scaled study scores & ENTER • VTAC administers application, selection & offer process for universities & TAFE • Tertiary institutions select- VTAC does not decide who gets an offer

VTAC GUIDE 2007-Alpha listing of Courses uni & TAFE • Apply on-line www.vtac.edu.au for all courses in VTAC Guide • Universities mainly 3 -4 yr degrees • Comm’wth Supported Places (CSP) $0-$8,170pa (code end 1) • Fee-paying (no govt contribution) $7,000+ eg Commerce $17,400 Monash Clayton (code end 2) loans available VTAC Guide Page16 • Full-fee International Students (code end 3) • Dual Fee eg CSP Commerce & Full-fee Law Monash • TAFE Institutes- 1-2 yr Certs, Dip & Adv Dip some degrees • (P/T applications direct to TAFE) max $839 pa • Independent Tertiary Colleges Cert & Dip & degrees – Full-fee generally $7000+

TERTIARY ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & SELECTION • Satisfactory completion of VCE • U3&4 any English in 1 calendar year • 3 other scorable studies • Institutional & course entrance requirements • See VTAC Guide 2007 • Prerequisites eg study score of at least 25 in Maths Methods • Extra Requirements -folio kits (some Sept), pre-selection test, additional form, interview, attend info sessions

APPLICATION at www.vtac.edu.au costs $22 for entire process • Max 12 prefs- apply for 12- may increase chance of offer • International Students same process as local students • Prefs in order wish to be offered them NOT in Clearly- In order • Courses in which you have an interest & prepared to complete • Courses you meet prerequisites & extra requirements • Use VTAC CourseLink search & practice option before applying • Include “safety-net” approx 5-8pts below your ENTER • MUST pay $22 -invoice/credit card - no pay then no C of P! • Invoice may take up to 10 working days • VNews – new & cancelled courses – register at www.vtac.edu.au

  6. HOW COURSES SELECT • Approx 50% use ENTER as only criteria • For these courses there are 3 groups of applicants • 1. Those clearly in 2. Those clearly out • 3. Those in middle-band see individual VTAC Guide course entries • Approx 50% use a range of criteria (RC) including ENTER, folio, interview, pre-selection test, additional forms etc • Folio pre-selection kits- some required in Sept 2007! • STAT & DULSAT – usually Non -Y12 but check Vic & some interstate courses require these

APPLY Online 31 July -29 Sept, 24/7 • Apply to www.vtac.edu.au - 12 prefs at www.vtac.edu.au -pay credit card or invoice POSTbillpay • If credit card unsuccessful do not reapply- invoice posted • Need: VTAC/VCAA number& PIN -created when applying • List all U3&4 done in previous years –v. important (if forget-MyInfo) • Need UMAT number if completed UMAT • Can access & change pref many times before 29 Sept • Wait 3 days before checking application • Remember PIN - option to have it emailed–reminder sent Dec ’06 • Suggest supplying your email address • Enter home school if LOTE done at “Saturday School” • Print- out Acknowledgement of Application

New & Cancelled Courses “New” means too late to be listed in 2007 VTAC Guide See VTAC website & register with Vnew Common Entry Standards - Uni Melb apply for one from group only see VTAC Guide page 400 Deferment See Uni Melb list of courses from which there will be no deferment VTAC Guide page 400 Every institution different check with individual institution

RESULTS & ENTER • Available 7am Mon 11th Dec 2006 • VTAC website- ENTER, Scaled SS, Aggregate • VCAA www.results.vcca.vic.edu.au, 2006 Study Score Results SMS 19 787 888 –must pre-register b/w 13 Nov & 10 Dec • Telephone 1900 957 888 • Mail on Tue 12th Dec • 2 letters -ENTER from VTAC • -Study Scores VCAA

ENTER-Rank not a score • VCAA send VTAC study scores then scaled • VTAC calculates an aggregate using English, next top 3 (primary 4) plus 10% fifth & 10% sixth (increments) • Enhancement in lieu of sixth 4, 5, 5.5 -need 5 U3&4 to be counted • VET -Max 2 in primary 4, max 3 in ENTER • 2006 Clearly -In Scores VTAC CourseLink, or VTAC Guide 2007 • Middle-band bonuses- individual VTAC Guide institutional entries • Clearly -In ENTER The rank at or above which all got an offer • Fringe ENTER- the rank at or above which 95% got an offer

  12. MyInfo • 3 days after paying processing fee ($22) can access MyInfo at www.vtac.edu.au. The following post-application tasks are accessed through MyInfo: • SEAS • Change of address • Add/Change studies on application ie U3&4 done 2005 • Change PIN • VCE results & ENTER • Change of Preference • Offers

Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) opens 7 Aug, close 6 Oct 2006 • Umbrella scheme managed by VTAC apply online VTAC website • See VTAC Guide 2007 pages20 & SEAS booklet (Library& Careers Rm) • 2 distinct categories *Access & Equity- unable to reach full academic potential, 10 categories, can apply for >1, not all institutions offer all categories, need documentation *Special Y12 Consideration- circumstances that had adverse impact on Y12 year academic performance • Need certified documentation VTAC Guide page26 • See Ms Stafford, Ms Fankhauser or Heads of House asap

CHANGE OF PREFERENCE (C of P ) • 2 periods 12 -20 Oct, & 4-18 Dec 2006 12 noon • Do not do until after got results 11 Dec on VTAC website • Ms Fankhauser available -book through Reception • VTAC CourseLink - search courses in your interest area with clearly-ins around your ENTER. • Attend uni & TAFE Change of Preference seminars • Include “safety net” • Some courses cannot be added at C of P • Do not add a course if not got prerequisite/extra requirements eg take off Monash Medicine if no interview & note advisory letters for Art/Design/Music

Advisory Letters A(1) Institution prepared to make offer if all other requirements met A(2) Institution prepared to make offer if met predetermined ENTER B(1) May receive Round 2 offer or following consideration of other info eg ENTER B(2) ENTER will be a factor a waiting may be applied to certain factor(s) C Thank you but no thank you - Take off pref list

OFFERS – follow instructions on offer letter • 1st Round Tue 16 Jan 2007 (9am) , 2nd Round 1 Feb 07 (9am) • Published newspapers, www.vtac.edu.au , MyInfo, mail • Website requires VCCA number & PIN • If applied Type 1 only will be eligible for one offer • If applied Type 2 only will be eligible for one offer • May get offer for each type • Will not get offers for Type 1 & 2 for the same named course • Irregular Offer can use after 16 Jan -form can be downloaded from MyInfo • Always accept (or defer) your 1st Round Offer as you may not get a 2nd Round Offer

OFFERS cont • If deferring contact institution individually, you may need to attend on enrolment day- see VTAC Guide • Need Tax File Number & pay some upfront fees • If accept an offer in Round 1 you will automatically be considered for courses listed higher on your list in later rounds • If accepting offer follow VTAC offer letter instructions & enrol at institution. If do not attend the offer is cancelled immediately • Some institutions allow another person to apply on your behalf (proxy) Contact the institution for advice well beforehand

Interstate applications–same closing date as VTAC except for some Medicine courses see VTAC Guide 2007 page 545 • Scholarships –Close around Oct- Nov, see institution’s websites, Scholarship Guide booklets • Course content- Hand books in Careers Rm & on Uni websites • Index of majors-VTAC Guide • Career Voyage JIIG-CAL - Network &Careers Room • Job Guide/www.myfuture. • Visit workplaces & talk to people in the job
