CLOSING the GAPS - History • April 1999 – CB planning committee appointed • October 2000 – CB approved “Closing the Gaps Higher Education Plan” • January 2001 – CB directed staff to develop a performance system that includes institutional targets • Five annual progress reports so far (2003-2007) • January 2004 - Executive Order RP31 – develop higher education accountability system • 2006 – CB approved 31 CC Accountability Measures • 2007 – CB directed higher ed groups to identify select measures to concentrate on

  4. CLOSING the GAPS - Goals By 2015: • GOAL 1: Close the Gaps in Participation • GOAL 2: Close the Gaps in Success • GOAL 3: Close the Gaps in Excellence • GOAL 4: Close the Gaps in Research Assure Progress Towards These Goals

  5. CLOSING the GAPS – TX Targets By 2015: • Goal I – Participation: add 630,000 more students to 1.65 million • Goal 2 – Success: increase degrees and certificates awarded to 210,000 • Goal 3 – Excellence: increase number of nationally recognized programs • Goal 4 – Research: increase federal research funding by 50% to $1.3 billion
