  1. DIGITAL SIGNATURE

  2. INTRODUCTION • A digital signature is an electronic signature that can be used authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or signer of a document and possible to ensure that the original document that has been sent is unchanged .Digital signatures are easily transportable cannot imitated by someone . • A digital signature can be used with any kind of message, whether it is encrypted or not, simply so that the receiver can be sure of the sender's identity and that the message arrived intact . A digital certificate contains the digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority so that anyone can verify that the certificate is real.

  3. WHY USE DIGITAL SIGNATURE ? • For “secret writing” • To establish a shared secret when other people (eavesdropper ) are listening.

  4. VOCABULARY Plaintext: Data that can be read and understood without any special measures. Encryption: The method of disguising plaintext in such a way as to hide its substance is called encryption. Cipher text: Encrypting plaintext results in unreadable gibberish called cipher text. Decryption: The process of reverting cipher text to its original plaintext is called decryption.

  5. Encryption and Decryption

  6. KEYS IN DIGITAL SIGNATURE • Public key Digital signature is an asymmetric scheme that uses a pair of keys for encryption: a public key, which encrypts data, and a corresponding private key (secret key) for decryption

  7. The primary benefit of digital signature is that it allows people who have no preexisting security arrangement to exchange messages securely. • The need for sender and receiver to share secret keys via some secure channel is eliminated; all communications involve only public keys, and no private key is ever transmitted or shared.

  9. WHAT IS DIGITAL SIGNATURE

  10. ADVANTAGE OF DIGITAL SIGNATURE • Privacy/Confidentiality: Information exchanged between two parties cannot be read by anyone but the intended recipient • Authentication: The parties exchanging data can validate each other’s identities • Integrity: Information exchanged between two parties arrives in tact and unmodified • Non-Repudiation: Agreements can be legally enforced.
