12 October, 1492 Dearest Family , I’m sailing on the boat called Pinta . The captains name is Martin Pinzon . On 11 October we spotted reeds and a small board. They also found a stick that a man carved with some type of iron tool. 12 October, 1492.

  1. 12 October, 1492 Dearest Family, I’m sailing on the boat called Pinta. The captains name is Martin Pinzon. On 11 October we spotted reeds and a small board. They also found a stick that a man carved with some type of iron tool.

  2. 12 October, 1492 The sea men look like real men, but in a different way. Their faces are covered with bunches of curly hair. People don’t understand why the Tainos on the islandwear yellow metal and why it’s fascinating. Some of us admire their spears made of reeds. They didn’t speak Spanish like us. We don’t think they have a religion.

  3. 12 October, 1492 In the afternoon, we saw people swimming to our boats and boats made of logs. They brought balls of cotton thread, spears, parrots, and many other things. They traded little glass beads and hawks’ bells. Sincerely, Riley Dillon
